Day 1:  Fly from London Gatwick to Helsinki.
On arrival, transfer by coach to the hotel for two-night stay on bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2:  Morning guided tour of Helsinki and an afternoon tour of Suomenlinna Fortress.
Helsinki, Finland’s capital, World Capital of Design in 2012 and site of the 1952 Olympics is a fascinating mixture of old and new with classical buildings, some striking modern architecture including several by acclaimed architect, Alvar Aalto, pioneer of architectural functionalism, as well as some outstanding churches and museums. This afternoon we have a guided tour by ferry to Suomenlinna Fortress, added in 1991 to the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique monument of military architecture. Dating from 1747, it has served in the defence of three realms: Sweden, Russia and Finland, reflecting Finland’s tumultuous history.

Day 3:  Morning free in Helsinki followed by a visit to Turku and overnight ferry to Stockholm.
Morning free for individual exploration before transferring by coach to Turku to visit the castle before embarking on the overnight ferry for Stockholm with interior cabin, dinner and breakfast included.

Day 4:  Morning guided tour of Stockholm with afternoon free.
In the early hours of the morning we will be crossing through the Swedish archipelago, a cluster of some 30,000 islands, which is well worth getting up early for to see. After breakfast on board, a guided tour of Stockholm will show you some of the main sights of Sweden’s lovely capital city, including a walk through its beautiful old town, home to its 13th century cathedral, Royal Palace and the Nobel Museum. Comprised of 14 islands and more than 50 bridges on an extensive Baltic Sea archipelago, Stockholm has a unique charm. Check in to hotel for two-night stay.

Day 5:  Morning visits to the Skansen and Vasa Museums with the afternoon free.
Further exploration of Stockholm includes the world’s first open-air museum, the Skansen, founded in 1891, that offers an overview of Swedish history and the Vasa maritime museum which tells the story of the ship that sank in 1628 and salvaged 333 years later – the most visited museum in Scandinavia. The rest of the afternoon is free for personal exploration.

Day 6:  Transfer to Stockholm train station for train (second class) to Copenhagen.
On arrival transfer to hotel for two night stay. Copenhagen is justifiably known as the ‘Paris of the North’, its cobbled streets lined with beautiful 17th- and 18th-century buildings, and the spires of Rosenborg Palace and Christiansborg Palace gracing the city’s skyline. It is a delightful place to explore, especially the Christianshavn quarter with its picturesque canals. The city’s galleries and museums offer a wealth of European art and design, with works showcasing Denmark’s own golden age (1800-1850), the Skagen Group (Denmark’s answer to impressionism) and Scandinavian Modern design, including Georg Jensen’s silver.

Day 7: Morning guided tour of Copenhagen with the afternoon free.
This morning we have a walking tour of Copenhagen including Amalienborg Palace, Gefion Fountain, Little Mermaid, Christianborg Palace and Town Hall (no entrances). Afternoon free for individual exploration.

Day 8: Morning free until transfer to the airport for flight to London Gatwick.
