7 nights starting from
Enjoy two very different locations on this tour; the village of Loutra Ypatis, an off-the-beaten-track peaceful, natural haven; and Arachova, understandably known as the ‘balcony of Parnassus’ due to its location and marvellous views
Karpenisi, a beautiful natural area that is known as the ‘Switzerland of Greece’
The monasteries of Meteora – extraordinary, impressive, immense, inspiring
Mount Pelion and its charming traditional villages
Delphi - one of the most infamous sites in Greece
This two-centre tour provides an opportunity to visit some of the lesser-known sites of north-east Greece, both natural and historic, as well as one of the most iconic sites of ancient Greece, Delphi. Our main base for this tour is a wonderful small village with thermal springs (and thermal swimming pool) situated in the shadow of Mount Oeti, a mountain of unique beauty and a designated national park. This position provides the opportunity to journey in various directions to discover some of the highlights of this region. We will visit Karpenisi, a beautiful area that has become known as ‘the Switzerland of Greece', with its wonderfully clean air and overflowing nature; the extraordinary towering Meteora monasteries built on dramatic rock pinnacles; Makrinitsa, one of several lovely villages situated on the Pelion peninsula with a traditional Pelion architecture; and historic Delphi and its wonderful panoramic location in the foothills of Mount Parnassus.

Departing: 07th October 2020 at 08:45
Returning: 14th October 2020 at 15:30
Day 1: Fly from London Heathrow to Athens.
Transfer to Loutra Ypatis. Welcome dinner at a local taverna.
Day 2: A relaxed day exploring the local area.
A relaxed first morning provides the opportunity to fully relax with a dip in the village’s thermal pool, emptied every evening and refilled every morning with the ever-flowing thermal waters. Later we will drive up into the foothills of Mount Oeti, visiting Ypatis small but excellent Byzantine museum, which has rich mosaics found in the region; and the 14th C. historic Agathonos monastery, before enjoying lunch in the hill village of Kastania.
Day 3: Karpenisi.
The mountainous capital of Evritania has a wonderful alpine feel with chalet style accommodation and forested slopes; pine, oak and chestnut; flowing rivers, steep villages and wonderful views. Our visit here is designed to enjoy the exceptional scenic nature of the area. We will visit the lovely village of Megalo Horio and enjoy lunch, with some traditional specialities, in the village of Mikro Horio.
Day 4: Magnificent Meteora.
The joy of visiting Meteora isn’t just about the monasteries, which are magnificent in their own right, but the unusual and dramatic rock formations, a sensational setting, that host the monasteries. A visit here offers both history and natures grandeur.
Day 5: Makrinitsa and Volos.
An area of outstanding natural beauty, the Pelion Peninsula, a large lush mountain area, is situated just above the coastal port town of Volos and is dotted with preserved mountain villages that are rightly considered architectural gems. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Thessaly region combining the allure of the sea with the mystical charm of the mythical Centaurs, who chose this place for their battles and celebrations.
Day 6: Loutra Ypatis to Arachova.
Leaving Loutra Ypatis behind we enjoy a scenic journey through the foothills of Mount Parnassus, stopping along the way at one of the prettiest of the Parnassus villages, Eptalofos, a true gem in the area. After checking in to our hotel in Arachova there will be free time to explore this lovely village.
Day 7: Delphi and Galaxidi.
Guided visit to the UNESCO site of Delphi. After our visit at this magnificent site we will drive to the seaside village of Galaxidi to enjoy a farewell lunch altogether.
Day 8: – Transfer to Athens Airport for return flight to London Heathrow

A most enjoyable holiday despite the adverse weather conditions which meant that a number of our activities had to be changed or rescheduled . These changes were very well administered by our ever resourceful Tour Manager Jane and her driver Niccos who were brilliant throughout . Both hotels were good , basic but comfortable and the staff extremely friendly and helpful . Breakfasts were good at Ypatis and adequate at Arachova. Our group consisted of17 people all with different backgrounds and interests but we all got along very well, thanks in part to Janes influence . We went to some stunning places Meteora and Delphi being the highlights . The food and wine in the local tavernas was excellent and inexpensive . All in all a very pleasurable experience despite the weather

I was impressed by Travel Editions and particularly our Tour Manager Jane and Nico our driver , their attention to detail was excellent. I wanted to see some authentic mainland Greece plus Delphi and we comfortably achieved both.

The first hotel was very welcoming and the owners were charming but the accommodation was basic.and there were only limited things to do in the village. The second hotel was excellent. and Arachnova is a beautiful town. The tour manager was wonderful and the driver excellent.

The time in the mini bus (4-5hrs) each day was far too long. We had awful weather for which we do not hold you responsible! Jane was very adaptable and made the best of it she could .

A recommended tour for Grecophiles who enjoy friendly, like-minded company with a wonderfully enthusiastic and caring guide, Jane Freeman. The central Greek countryside of vast green forests, mountain ranges and sheer, vertical heights of rock, topped off precariously with ancient monasteries, are breathtaking. The natural wildness where fierce dogs guard goat and sheep herds from top predators such as wolves and bears reassured this environmentalist that rewilding is unnecessary in Greece; just increase eco tourism to aid economic recovery.

The holiday exceeded our expectations in all aspects. Fantastic scenery, lovely hotels, excellent itinerary and superb food. Add to this mix a lovely group of fellow travelers, Nico's excellent driving and the wonderful organisation and enthusiasm of tour manager,Jane and you have an unforgettable experience. We will definitely be booking another Greek holiday with Travel Editions.

A very enjoyable holiday. Jane and Nico were a good team and both went out of their way to ensure we were well looked after. The Alexakis Hotel at Loutra Ypatis was excellent - so welcoming and comfortable - I did not want to leave! We saw some amazing places and enjoyed the Greek hospitality and food in the village tavernas. Visiting the Meteora monasteries was a highlight. Just one thing I would like to point out - one person needed a wheelchair to get on and off the plane! I felt this was rather unfair on the tour leader as she took up a considerable amount of time - although Jane did look after her very willingly.

Jane Freeman had worked so hard in organising such a great new trip. Her attention to detail, and caring attitude to each individual was excellent, which meant our whole group had an amazingly enjoyable experience. Thank you to the whole team. Our driver Nico, and Hotel Alexakis a very special mention too!

A super tour in every way. Jane was an excellent tour manager and also great fun and we all had lots of laughs. She chose wonderful food for our included meals in very good tavernas. I had long wanted to see the Meteora and they did not disappoint and we loved all the other days- villages, museums, churches, flowers, the little train, bathing in the hot spring water. The scenery was beautiful and the weather good.

Excellent as always and encouraged me to book the Scenic Epirus tour in October, so looking forward to returning.

A lovely experience of 'green Greece', all snow-capped peaks and verdant valleys with many spring flowers. Both hotels were fine and welcomig particularly in Loutra Ypati. Lovely villages, quiet roads and friendly locals. Jane Freeman was a splendid tour manager, aided and abetted by excellent driving from the unflappable Nikos. Good food and wine, especially at the last seafood lunch in Itea.
