ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive independently at the Ripon Spa Hotel from 15.00.
Welcome reception, dinner with wine and introductory talk from your horticulturalist tour guide, David Hurrion.

Day 2:  Helmsley Walled Garden and Newby Hall
Our first visit is to the five beautiful acres in the North Yorkshire Moors that is Helmsley Walled Garden, in a state of dereliction in 1994, but restored over the years to the splendid gardens we see today. This afternoon, we head to Newby Hall, a delightful late 18th century house with splendid gardens.

Day 3: Scampston Walled Garden, Burnby Hall Gardens and Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens
Three contrasting gardens for our delectation today as we head first to Scampston to see the unashamedly modern walled garden, designed by the renowned Dutch plantsman, Piet Oudolf, which complements the surrounding Capability Brown landscapes.  Then to Burnby Hall Gardens, renowned for its National Collection of more than 100 varieties of Waterlily.  Finally to the outskirts of York to Stillingfleet Lodge, a series of individual colour-themed cottage gardens.

Day 4: Parceval Hall Gardens, RHS Harlow Carr and Betty’s tearooms.
A packed last day and arguably the best of all with a visit to Parceval Hall Gardens, laid out by historic plantsman, Sir William Milner from 1927 and planted with specimens from around the globe. Then to the RHS’ splendid northern outpost at Harlow Carr, covering some 68 acres of landscapes from running and still water to woodland and wildflower meadows.  And lastly, into nearby Harrogate for afternoon tea in a private room at the legendary Betty’s tea room – a fitting way to end this superb tour. Return to the hotel for approximately 1730.
