Walk from Hampton Court to Richmond with en-route visit to Strawberry Hill House. Built in 1749 by Horace Walpole to house his vast collection of treasures. Evening welcome drink and dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight at the Richmond Hill Hotel.
Day 2: 13 miles - Richmond to Wandsworth.
Walk from Richmond to Wandsworth with en-route visits to Kew Palace and Gardens and Coach House, Hammersmith based in the basement of William Morris’ Kelmscott House. Kew Palace, located in Kew Gardens, has a rich history spanning nearly 400 years and was first built in 1631 by Samuel Fortrey. Bought by King George III in 1781 for his wife Queen Caroline and their ever-growing family. Coach House, Hammersmith, based inside the basement of William Morris' Kelmscott House, houses the Morris Society's comprehensive collection of Morris and Co. wallpapers, watercolour designs, and textiles ranging from a Hammersmith rug and woven hangings to printed cottons, silks and embroideries. Please note that Kelmscott House is privately owned and not open to the public. Evening welcome drink and dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight at the Alma Hotel, Wandsworth.
Day 3: 14 miles - Wandsworth to Canary Wharf.
Walk from Wandsworth to Rotherhithe with en-route visits (time permitting) to the Chelsea Old Church, Carlyle’s House, the home of historian and philosopher Thomas Carlyle and his wife Jane Welsh Carlyle, located at No. 24 Cheyne Row in Chelsea, the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern. Evening welcome drink and dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight at the Dorsett City Hotel.
Day 4: 11 miles - Canary Wharf to the Thames Barrier.
Walk from Rotherhithe to the Thames Barrier with en-route visits to the Brunel Museum, Inigo Jones’ newly restored Queen’s House, Greenwich and Emirates cable car across the river for a bird’s eye view of the river. The tour will finish at the Thames Barrier mid-afternoon.
The group will depart the hotel at 09.00 and finish each day at approximately 17.00. Your luggage will be collected on day 1 at Hampton Court and transferred from hotel to hotel leaving you free to enjoy the walk. A small day bag is a good idea to carry waterproofs, a bottle of water etc.

A well organised walking tour. Sophie was particularly kind to our grand daughter who joined us on the walk. The hotels were well located and very good with the exception of the one at Canary Wharf where the staff were a bit offhand. My husband does not hear very well and would have liked an audio commentary which we have had on other trips. Although we are both "Londoners" we felt we learned a great deal and would highly recommend this trip.

We thought that Sophie and Steve were brilliant and their knowledge of the items of interest on the walk was first class. We enjoyed the challenge of such a long walk. We thought that the London Hilton was poor, accommodation and food, whereas the other two hotels were fine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Sophie Campbell who is an excellent tutor/guide and dealt sensitively with our group. We have enjoyed many Travel Editions trips and the pairing of tour mangers and guides has always worked well. Steven and Sophie are no exception. Just one point to note was the very rare lamb served at the Doubletree Docklands was disappointing.

A really memorable holiday. The walk and tours were really interesting. Sophie and Steve has such a depth of knowledge to add, they were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I am certainly looking at other holidays with Travel Editions for next year. Well done for organising such a brilliant holiday. The only part of the tour I would not mark as excellent was the Doubletree hotel in that the evening meal was not very good and the bags were not in our room when we arrived as they had been at the other two hotels. Certainly not a fault with Travel Editions but with the hotel staff. I think my fellow passengers who were a super bunch of people will also mention this in feedback. Can you organise some more walking holidays in the UK in interesting places for future years? Many thanks, Maureen

A very enjoyable trip, with excellent organisation. Sophie really brought the past to life with her superb stories of the past. Our only quibble was we needed to know times for start and finish earlier to sort out transport arrangements. The advert also needed to be more upfront about the distance walked, as a few people in our party did struggle a bit. It was a bit late to tell us the week before!

I thoroughly enjoyed this holiday. Sophie and Steve were very helpful and took into account our capabilities. It was a challenge and I am very pleased that I was able to fulfil it!
Review by Mrs Philippa Thornley who travelled 25-June-2017
The places visited were delightful and excellently described by the guides who had a wealth of background knowledge and information. Sophie Campbell was a treat, although I regret I cannot recall so much of the huge amount of fascinating and entertaining detail! A very much enjoyed tour of London and its landmarks close to the Thames in the company of an interesting like-minded group. First class accommodation and dining. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour.A few points, nowhere was the distance we were expected to walk each day was mentioned,I was told ,on booking,9,11,14,11 ( I had estimated this distance ). When I phoned to complete payment the word "kilometers" was mentioned to my relief ! However the next day I received Sophie's letter with the accurate information .Several guests did say that they would not have booked had they known the actual distances !!! However , we all managed the whole distance. It would have been good to have had a map. The hotels were excellent, good food, wine and accommodation.Sophie and Steve were a good team, very informative. So, many thanks for an excellent 4 days with lovely ,interesting people.Thankyou

Travel Editions feedback:
The exact distances are on the website and are Day 1 9 miles Day 2 13 miles Day 3 14 miles Day 4 11 miles
Both Steve and Sophie were very pleasant, helpful and informative at all times.

Very good trip. Both Sophie and Steve excellent tour guides. No problems throughout.
Review by Mr Kenneth Hillier who travelled 25-June-2017
The Tour Guide Sophie Campbell made the tour, Very knowledgeable and delivered with great charm and humour. Didn't worry us, but distances walked probably 12 -15 miles a day rather than 10. Might be a problem to some, but always a good number of available boats to leapfrog to the next meeting point. .A fascinating four days, particularly for someone with only any real knowledge of central London.
Review by Mr Richard Crawford who travelled 11-September-2016
Sophie and Steve are excellent guides and the walk was very well organised, interesting and fun. They went "above and beyond" to make sure all the walkers were well looked after especially in light of the very hot weather conditions. The only downside was the Doubletree Hilton at Docklands which was not in the same league as the other two hotels, this was no fault of our guides. Travel Editions may want to look at an alternative venue. All in all an excellent 4 days we would recommend this trip to all walkers and people interested in London history.

Sophie and Steve were excellent guides - full of enthusiasm and knowledge. They kept the walk going while providing time for visits and rests/coffee breaks. Alma provided excellent accommodation but let down by food and service. A fantastic holiday that brought London and its history to life.

The only reason I have given the sightseeing tours a 'good' rather than excellent is that the guide at the Kelmscott Museum was somewhat dippy and rather let Sophie down - not Sophie's fault. Everything else worked like a dream and I can't rate Sophie and Steve highly enough. The only other point I would make is that it's difficult to get to Hampton Court for 10.45 on a Sunday morning if one lives outside London as the trains start later on a Sunday. I travelled down the day before and visited Hampton Court however, so I made it work for me, but others might prefer the walk to start on a Saturday.

Alma pub in Wandsworth excellent. Last hotel only OK. Steve tour manager excellent, and good rapport with Sophie. Sophie said just about enough on each stop - can easily overdo it. She didn't. Good weather helped. Kelmscott disappointing. Particularly enjoyed Chelsea visits.
Review by Mrs Stephanie Atkins who travelled 09-August-2015
We think it essential that hotel rooms should have a barth rather than a shower because of the strenuous exercise of this walk. Other wise it was a wonderful four days and can be well recommended. Excellent tour manager/guide.

Review by Mrs L Hardy who travelled 26-July-2015
It is difficult to know where to begin in praise of the trip! Our guide, Sophie Campbell, was fantastic: supremely knowledgeable, interesting and great fun! We walked through the most diverse areas that we would never have seen had we not been on foot and all marvelled at the sights pointed out to us. The hotels and meals along the way were of high quality as was the planning of every detail. Highly recommended and definitely whet my appetite to try more trips with Travel Editions.

This was our second time and we were not disappointed. Sophie Campbell is an expert at communicating her knowledge and love of London. She and Steve pace the walking so well that there was a break at the right time and the right place. Thanks to everyone involved.
Review by Mr John Manning who travelled 19-July-2015
We both had a super time and were amazed at the smoothness of the organisation. We were so well looked after by all concerned from the tour operators & the tour guides to the hotel staff and the luggage handler. We learned so many interesting facts from Sophie and Steven. The whole tour went really well. The pace of walking was quite tough - but brilliant. Many thanks Rita & Andy

Fantastic way to feel the real London. Sophie and Steve were second to none . An A* trip.
Review by Mrs Irene Miller who travelled 19-July-2015
Walk to Thames barrier was not pleasant. It would have been better to end the walk and spend more time in Greenwich. Some information on the hotels was inaccurate e.g. No swimming pool at Hilton Docklands.
Review by Mr John Lehane who travelled 19-July-2015
The Alma and Hilton Hotel were excellent but the Richmond Hill Hotel has a strange system of air conditioning which subsequently meant I and others were unable to switch it off. I had very little sleep because of the noise of the fan - that is why I have stated good for accommodation as opposed to excellent. The walk was well thought out, not too rushed but I understand our group kept up a good pace. Sophie and Steve worked well together and the experience was a joy. It was also lovely at the end of the day that our group sat together for the evening meal. Sophie and Steve are gems and I learnt a great deal each day - I would not have missed it for the world. I was very impressed with the organisation of the transport from our suitcases always in our rooms to places of interest where we were expected and on occasion the means of getting there.

Review by Ms Linda Brightman who travelled 19-July-2015
Excellent leadership from Sophie Campbell ably assisted by Steve - a good team that made the holiday. Earlier info on details holiday needed - difficult to arrange transport start/finish. The map published in Telegraph would have been useful. Accommodation poor at the Hilton, perhaps refurb will improve this?

Review by Mr David Lucas who travelled 19-April-2015
Sophie was exceptionally knowledgeable and an excellent guide. We have learnt a lot about London and its past history, characters, shipping, churches, architecture, art, home design, and engineering. Steve complemented her really well.
Review by Dr A Mcdonald who travelled 05-October-2014
Sophie was an outstanding guide whose knowledge and delivery of interesting facts was excellent. Sophie was complimented by Jane who was cheerful and on hand at all times and I was most impressed with her initiative over what could have been some difficult issues.
Review by Mr Anthony Mahoney who travelled 26-August-2014
Sophie Campbell led the walk and struck a perfect balance between walking and sightseeing with a pithy and enthralling commentary Our only minor complaint was that the accommodation in the Docklands Hilton was poor.
Review by Mr Michael Crowe who travelled 26-August-2014
The final details sent to us differed to the actual arrangements in that we were instructed that our baggage would be delivered to us at the conclusion of the tour at the Thames Barrier. We had therefor booked a hotel close by for the night prior to our return home the following day. In the event we were transferred by taxi to the Hilton Docklands hotel to collect our luggage which resulted in a long journey back to our booked hotel. Fortunately our tour manager arranged for our return journey at the companies cost.
Review by Mr Keith Hutchinson who travelled 26-August-2014
Really very good, Sophie was fabulous, very informative and good company as was Jane an excellent tour manager. The only improvement you could make would be for the tour to end at Grenwich, as after there the scenery it is rather desolate
Review by Mrs Mavis Maundrell who travelled 26-August-2014
Excellent holiday. Jane from Travel Editions kept the tour running smoothly and Sophie Campbell, our Blue Badge Guide, was just GREAT.

Suggest that you upgrade Hilton rooms if you use this hotel again as they were pretty poor. The evening meal there was also a let-down. The Alma is a fantastic find! Sophie was a superb guide.
