Flight in an historic RAF De Havilland Devon from Headcorn Aerodrome
Brenzett Aeronautical Museum
Hawkinge Battle of Britain Museum
Capel-le-Ferne Memorial to the Few
Our Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines tour has been one of our most popular tours for the past two or three years and we have been looking for another aviation experience that we felt could match it. With our More Magnificent Men tour, based in Kent, we believe we have found it. Again accompanied throughout by aviation expert David W. Lee, the tour’s highlight is a flight in a vintage RAF de Havilland Devon eight-seater aircraft over the lovely Kent countryside, including lovely Leeds Castle. This scenic flight is a nostalgic throwback to the dawn of mass air travel, when the de Havilland Devon (known as the Dove) was THE short haul passenger airliner to be seen in during the 1950s and was used by many airlines. It remained part of the Royal Flight until the 1970s and was recently featured in the Netflix production of “The Crown.” This fascinating new tour also includes a wealth of aviation sights reflecting the area’s pivotal role in World War II.

Our next visit is to the moving Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, which honours the heroes of the Battle of Britian, set on the white cliffs overlooking the Channel. Finally, to the Spitfire and Hurricane Museum at Manston, which houses TB752, one of the few surviving Spitfires with a wartime record and the LF751 Hurricane, which was built at Langley in 1944 (or the adjacent RAF Museum if you prefer) before returning to the hotel for approximately 17.30.
