Colourful carnival parades with guaranteed seated tickets
Glamorous architecture in Nice and Menton
Wonderful coastal and mountain scenery
Modern art in abundance – in Nice, St Paul de-Vence and Antibes
A splash of Mediterranean sunshine in deepest winter
This lovely tour, travelling by air, is based around two delightful annual events: the Nice Carnival and the Menton Lemon Festival. The earliest record of the Nice Carnival is 1294, making it one of the world's oldest carnival celebrations. For two weeks every February and March, Nice is full of open air music performances, parades, processions and carnival cheer. The Menton Lemon Festival, in its 90th year, is quite unique where locals use citrus fruit to create huge exhibitions and statues along a set theme - the results are truly impressive.

Day 1: Fly from London Gatwick to Nice.
On arrival, transfer by coach to the hotel for check-in. Evening welcome drink at the hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant in Nice.
Day 2: Morning tour of Nice with the afternoon free.
The capital of the Riviera, Nice is a buzzing city full of culture, excellent restaurants and good shopping. There are distinct districts - the medieval quarter, the Italianate quarter that belies Nice’s past as part of Italy and plenty of rich mansions that shows past pedigree as one of the most fashionable resorts in Europe. There are plenty of excellent museums to explore, and the vibrant Promenade des Anglais to stroll along.
Day 3: Full day in Nice with the chance to view the Flower Parade (ticket not included - please visit the Nice Carnival Website for more information). Evening seated ticket (included) for the Carnival Parade of Lights.
For two weeks every February and March, Nice is full of open air music performances, parades, processions and carnival cheer. There are parades daily with numerous floats and over 1000 musicians and dancers taking part. You have a seated ticket to enjoy the evening parade included but you will be able to purchase extra tickets for other parades whilst in Nice if you wish. The 2026 theme will be "Vive la Reine".
Day 4: Full day tour to Menton with seated tickets to the Lemon Festival Parade.
Right on the border, Menton exudes Italianate charm from its picturesque position ringed by mountains. The Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) is the resort’s biggest annual event. You’ll find 10 metre tall citrus-covered installations in the Biovès Gardens and a colourful parade with each float bearing over 140 tonnes of fruit! We have also included the ‘Exhibition of Citrus Patterns in the Jardins Bioves’ to view the sculptures up close.
Day 5: Full day tour to Grasse and the Gorges du Loup.
The medieval hill town of Grasse has been the capital of perfume concoction for nearly 300 years. In the midst of fields planted with an array of fragrant blooms, the town has a museum dedicated to the art of parfumiers as well as lovely old streets to wander. Famous for the fortified villages that perch along the steep sides formed by the River Loup, the Gorges du Loup offer wonderful views and dramatic cascades.
Day 6: Full day tour to Vence and Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
A hilltop town full of charm, Vence is interlaced by narrow streets and dotted with lovely squares. It was popular with painters, including Picasso, thanks to its excellent light and it was here that Matisse was involved in the architectural design and decoration of the Chapelle du Rosaire (entrance included). Saint-Paul-de-Vence was a magnet for artists throughout the 20th century, and the village is dominated by studios and galleries. You can visit the Colombe d’Or restaurant where painters, including Picasso, traded paintings for meals and accommodation. You’ll also find the Fondation Maeght Museum of Modern Art here.
Day 7: Full day tour to Biot, Antibes and Cap d’Antibes.
The hill town of Biot was a centre for pottery between the 16th and 18th century, a tradition reborn in the mid-20th century when the town once again became famous for its decorative pottery and glasswork. The lively resort of Antibes has a lovely old town and one of the world’s best Picasso collections in the old seafront, Chateau Grimaldi – entrance to the collection is included. Author Graham Greene was a resident here for 20 years. The Cap d’Antibes hides many a sumptuous villa in its pine woods, an area frequented by the likes of F Scott Fitzgerald in its 1920s heyday.
Day 8: Transfer to Nice Airport for the return flight to London Heathrow.
NB: In the event that the parades in Nice and Menton are cancelled for whatever reason, only the ticket price for the parade will be refunded and no reimbursement made for hotel and travel costs.
Exact order of itinerary may vary according to departure date, the carnival programme, local conditions, and tour manager's discretion.

We enjoyed the trip and I was pleased the assistance was in place at the airports, thank you. The "Carnaval" organisation was excellent and I managed to get seating for those with mobility difficulties. The Menton Lemon Festival organisation was chaotic, and long queues, not well managed! The Tour Manager was a bit "hands off" with the sightseeing trips and we relied on other members of the group for an update, as he went at speed and the 3 members of the group who walked with a stick struggled to keep up, as we didn't get all the information beforehand. Having said that, he was very friendly and pleasant, although a bit repetitive with the local information. Insufficient time at the Picasso Museum. On the final day, the Tour Manager took us to the wrong departure terminal, then told us we would have to get the tram to the correct terminal. If I had not had the assistance of my daughter, I would have struggled to get my luggage on and off the tram. As it was, I was very stressed and anxious! This basic error should not have happened. In spite of a few hiccups, we really enjoyed the trip, lovely staff at the hotel and good standard of food. My daughter plans to return to explore Nice at a future date.

Excellent tour very good caring knowledgeable guide. Everything worked like clockwork except the weather but that was beyond anyone’s control I would certainly recommend Travel Editions tours especially the Nice carnival

This is my second travel editions tour.and i found them consistent. For me, te lack of details regarding itinerary, timing, daily schedule trouble. We dont know our schedule from i one day to the next, we dont always get exact timing on when to return to coach. Etc. we get a one age, vague detail for a 5 or 6 day tour. I do like that meals on our own,. Alex was very agreeable, and happy, and a pleasure to travel with. I would like to do another tour with him. But it would be nice to have start times for each day when we arrive. Thank you.
Review by anonymous who travelled 22-February-2024
We enjoyed our first tour with Travel Editions, but felt the information was rather sparse. A daily itinerary in advance would have been helpful with more details about the places included in the excursion, timings of stops & free time etc.
Review by anonymous who travelled 22-February-2024
The only thing that spoilt the trip was having to travel from Yorkshire to Heathrow for the flight during train strikes. More local departures please.
Review by Goodall who travelled 22-February-2024
Better to have the rest day between coach tours not the beginning. Liked not having half board as lots of restaurants locally but on the very wet days might have liked to eat in the hotel if only for a bar meal.
Review by Hollow who travelled 22-February-2024
Both the Nice Carnival and Lemon Festival were well wrthwhile going to. - spectacular floats , good atmosphere. In some ways it was disappointing that there was not an organised trip prior to these events as the opportunity to mix with other group members was limited to a quick drink on arrival at the hotel. Everyone was tired (and fed up) because of the delays at Heathrow. Little info from Tour Manager on arrival. He rather left it to the local guides who took us round Nice. Fortunately the Tourist Office was at hand and very useful for information on getting to Matisse Museum etc. The lady in Messina villa also good informing me of 15 euros entry to all several museums. I felt that these were things the tour manager could have told us given the amount of free time before any trips out from Nice.

Review by Worling who travelled 23-February-2023
The content of the tour was excellent and well paced with just the right amount of time provided at each location. The hotel was delightful, being a boutique establishment rather than a concrete box! It's location must be its main selling point. Right in the centre of Nice with many great restaurants in the area.

Unfortunately the main purpose of the tour, The Menton Lemon Festival, was cancelled on the day we departed. After getting over the initial shock, and obvious disappointment, we settled into our holiday. The weather was pretty good and the chosen hotel was great. We had a noisy room and requested a move, this was actioned immediately and we had an enjoyable stay. Alternative visits were put in place of the festival and everybody seemed to make the most of it. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Our tour manager, Karen Blackwell was excellent, please pass on our thanks to her. Many Thanks David and Liz Smith

Our tour guide Karen Blackwell was excellent from start on Trains till Return journey. The cancellation of the Canivals was a disappointment but always the professional Karen filled in with interesting history and places, we wondered, could we have had time for the Carnivals(Only joking) . Thank you for a very enjoyable trip.
Review by Bowyer who travelled 27-February-2020
Despite the cancellation of the 2 Main attractions the tour was excellent and well enjoyed. The Hotel was excellent and the daily tours well planned and executed. We felt that the extended duration of the final day tour could have been "shortened" a little to allow some time in the late afternoon to do a little last minute shopping in Nice that really needed to be done.
Review by Eagle who travelled 27-February-2020
Cancellation of events featured in the brochure was unfortunate and fact of a long journey had to be accepted if not enjoyed. Quality hotel with good location in town but lacking in lounge and bar facilities. Leisure time in Nice was an option to be exploited. Our guide engaged with everyone in the group., always cheerful and ever helpful.

Review by Rycroft who travelled 27-February-2020
All arrangements were very good and everything worked smoothly. We were very lucky with the weather: blue skies and sun, and were a happy group. The hotel was very friendly and comfortable and conveniently situated for the seafront and the carnival. We knew we should find it quite tiring as there was so much going on and the day excursions left us too little time to really investigate the places we went to, but that is what we expected. It gave us an excellent overview of the area and we shall definitely go back. Our tour manager was so well informed and warm-hearted. We have already recommended the trip to friends and are encouraged to try other travel edition trips in future. Thank you.

1. The tour manager said what a good view you got along the coast on the TGV so we were a little disappointed to have downstairs seats, facing backwards on the inland side. 2. While the hotel was well located and the staff very good, the room was small and basic.

The tour manager was really excellent and rally made the holiday. the only down side was the tap in the bathroom which was almost impossible to operate due the amount of force needed to operate it ,.we mentioned to the hotel staff on numerous occasions but the problem was never completely cured.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week visiting a 'new' area for us. So much to see. Balance of organised tours and free time excellent. Our tour manager, Alix, was truly the best. So helpful, knowledgeable and interesting. Might have opted for flight option as journey by train quite long.
Review by Jay who travelled 20-February-2020
Alex managed the group brilliantly and his self effacing but humorous style caught the mood of the group perfectly. The hotel was clean and comfortable but there was a persistent smell of drains in many of the corridors. The breakfast selection was good but the urn of stale-looking lime-infused water which deteriorated over several days did not aid confidence in the hotel's approach to basic food hygiene.
Review by Shaw who travelled 20-February-2020
Since our return from this holiday we have done little other than tell our relatives, friends and anyone else who cared to listen what a fabulous holiday we experienced on our trip to the Nice Carnival. The company coped magnificently with the late cancellation of our outbound Eurostar and Karen our tour manager treated the group as responsible adults and was efficiency personified. We hesitated over the grading for the Hotel which was perfectly sited, spotless and served an excellent breakfast. The room furnishings were very modern, hanging space very good but we could not find a single drawer. Perhaps this is just a generational thing! Many thanks for a great holiday.

A very enjoyable holiday. All aspects were of a high standard, especially the tour manager, Karen. The unfortunate cancellation of the euro star train was well handled by your staff. It must have been difficult for you! Being upgraded to Business Plus softened the discomfort of the unexpectedly early start.

This was a very good tour, but rather a large group of people to keep track of. when getting on to trains, coach and sightseeing. The Massena Hotel was very welcoming with very friendly and helpful staff, enjoying the NICE Carnival , by wearing fancy costumes. The hotel was well situated, and it was lovely to be so near the sea. There was a very good range of restaurants, cafes etc. close by.
Review by Barr who travelled 21-February-2019
Great itinerary and well organised tour. While I understand the commercial reasons for a tour party of 47, this was too large for our liking and difficult for the tour manager during excursions and we will only book again for tours limited to about 30 people.
Review by Sherwin who travelled 21-February-2019
Breakfast room in hotel a bit chaotic (in terms of space and replenishing items that were constantly running out). Bar almost never manned. Barman didn’t seem to want to give us a welcome drink on arrival. Otherwise very good, staff uniformly helpful and welcoming. and extremely well sited.
Review by Anonymous who travelled 21-February-2019
The hotel was comfortable and ideally situated. We particularly enjoyed the walking tour of Old Nice. Also having a day and a half to ourselves was also good - although the weather had a lot to do with this! A good selection of Brasseries/Restuarants close to the hotel was also helpful. The Carnival and the Lemon Festival were also great experiences. Karen, the tour manager was excellent - informative without being over the top, helpful but not intrusive.

Review by Gallimore who travelled 14-February-2019
The tour and your guide (Alex Patrimonio) were excellent. He looked after us and gave us lots of information without being 'over the top'. I don't know what can be done about it but you ought to know that crossing Paris on a coach was stressful in both directions. Outbound it took nearly two hours with no time to buy a lunch and home-bound we nearly missed the Eurostar because of Paris traffic. The driver and Alex did their best. I don't know the answer. Would recommend the tour and Travel Editions.

Review by Lee who travelled 14-February-2019
Excellent guide - excursions all good except visit to glass-blowing which was rather under-whelming. We decided to arrange our own flights rather than Eurostar/TGV and surprisingly this worked out cheaper (and clearly was less arduous!). The change of dates was inconvenient but we were pleased that you were able to arrange for us to keep the original dates chosen, although we were disappointed to miss the walking tour of Nice as a result. The size of the merged tour party was too large. Weather disappointing!!!
Review by Whitaker who travelled 21-February-2018
The Eurostar tickets were not accepted at the barrier at St Pancras and we had to be re-allocated tickets by the customer service desk. This took some time but fortunately the train was delayed. On arrival at the hotel there did not seem to be a reservation for us as our room had been allocated to another guest. We felt that the hotel staff were not sufficiently concerned to sort out the problem. We were fortunate that our excellent Tour Manager, Karen, was on hand to sort the matter out for us. We have travelled with you many times and this is the first occasion on which we have had problems.

Travel Editions feedback:
Very sorry to learn of the poor start to your tour but very pleased to learn that your tour manager saved the day - one advantage of an escorted tour...the hotel apparently couldn't cope with different passengers having the same name!
Well organised day trips out. Seats for the festivals were in good settings. Karen, our tour manager, was a wonderful and helpful person, she has a lovely temperament and suited this role. The proximity of the hotel to activities, restaurants and shops was excelllent.

Review by who travelled 21-February-2018
We enjoyed all that was offered but we will never go on a holiday again that involves a train journey through the length of France. The outward journey was marred by the fact that there were no hot drinks available on the train from Lille. The inward journey was marred by that dreadful drag through the streets with our cases when we got to Paris. Surely it would be possible to offer an alternative by air. Two of our party actually went home by air because they couldn't stand the thought of the train journey.
Review by Read who travelled 21-February-2018
The train journey was very long the train was dirty, uncomfortable and food and drink ran out. Would have been good to offer a flight to Nice which is what we did on the return journey as we could not face it again. The hotel was wonderful, very nice and comfortable room, great location and very good selection for breakfast. The tours were very good and the festivals very enjoyable. Would have been good to include the ticket for the gardens at the Lemon Festival this was the most interesting part and something everyone wanted to see, instead of having to queue up for them. Karen the tour guide was excellent providing lots of information about the places we visted. Overall a good tour.

The success of this holiday was mostly down to the guide Alex and the interesting and varied itinerary .Right from the start he was very friendly attentive ,and knowledgeable on all subjects .We particularly liked his knowledge of the flora and fauna and anecdotes about people who had visited the area both historical and recent.

The trip was a first for us, never having used a tour company, and we could not have enjoyed it more had we organised it ourselves. Everything run really smoothly and efficiently and our guide Alex was an absolute gem. He made the excursions come to life and enhanced our total enjoyment of the visit. The hotel was also extremely comfortable, with friendly staff and nothing was ever a problem for them. Alex, our tour manager, was brilliant - knowledgeable, informative, friendly, relaxed, organised, humorous. We very much enjoyed the trips - especially Vence and St. Paul de Vence. For us, the Nice Carnival and Menton Lemon Festival were the least appealing aspects of the holiday - we're glad we saw them but don't feel the need to see them again. Brice Garden Hotel was also very good.

As far as the hotel room is concerned, there was a distinctive lack of drawer space and why do so many hotels with beds for two only include one chair!? The education of the bar staff needs improving - on one occasion when asked for a brandy the reply was "What sort of brandy would you like - whisky or cognac"! They also ran out of blended whisky on the second night and did not replace it. Serge was a very good tour manager - always around to help without being obtrusive and an absolute mine of information.

We were very fortunate to have Sandra McGill as tour leader. Very practical, knowledgeable and endlessly patient. A real asset to your company. The only slight niggle was a very long first day and arriving so late in Nice. Maybe consider a 2 night stop in Avignon, plenty to see and breaks the journey a bit. Excellent holiday which could only be improved in two very minor areas. Long walks with luggage at stations were a disappointment. Tour manager was excellent, one of the best that we have ever had.
