Painting in Austria with West Norfolk Arts

All tours on this holiday have now departed. Future departure dates will be confirmed in due course.

  • Learning in a relaxed, holiday environment

  • Expert guidance in any media from leading, professional artists and tutors

  • Improving your skills and socialising in the company of a like-minded group

You are warmly invited to join tutors David Bellamy and Jenny Keal on this, our third, organised painting holiday to the Austrian Tyrol. In total, this will be the 75th tutored painting holiday we have organised since we began our overseas Painting Holiday Programme, so it’s a very special landmark occasion for us and one that we very much hope you will be able to celebrate with us!

In association with West Norfolk Arts

The painting programme for our week has, as always, been thoughtfully designed to provide not only an interesting variety of subject matter to keep the artistic juices flowing but, also, to give a genuine feel for this area of outstanding natural beauty. With that in mind, the intention is to go high by cable car once or twice (weather permitting) together with private coach excursions to our carefully chosen locations which will include valleys, mountains, waterfalls and some townscape/architectural opportunities!

As with all our overseas holidays there will be one half day, from a tuition point of view, for a little sightseeing, retail therapy and general relaxation. That said, you are, of course, welcome to opt out of the non-compulsory structure any time you wish!

David and Jenny invite you to join them painting in the media of your choice. Individual tuition can be provided in any media, however, group demonstrations by David and Jenny will be in Watercolour and Pastel respectively.

There will be an element of walking involved but always at a sensible, leisurely, pace – it is, however, worth bearing in mind that some of our planned locations are not ideally suited to wheeled ‘painting kit’ trolleys and a comfortable pair of sturdy walking shoes are highly recommended!

For 2019 we have chosen the Hotel Edelweiss as our base, a privately owned four star property situated on the outskirts of Neustift which is set in the very heart of the Stubai Valley. The moment you arrive the overwhelming feeling here is welcoming, comfortable, stylish and relaxed. This, combined with the stunning scenery which surrounds us, promotes an irrepressible sense of wellbeing! Pine forested slopes, meadows and the breath-taking mountain scenery are all, quite literally, on our doorstep!

Our hotel offers all the usual facilities one would expect, including a choice of indoor or outdoor swimming pools - towels provided in Wellness area. There is a fitness room, sauna and a Wellness Centre offering a variety of  natural beauty treatments. Our accommodation has been arranged on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis and the modern, well appointed rooms are all ensuite.

Your Art Tutors

David Bellamy specialises in painting mountain and wild coastal scenes, and is particularly fascinated by the moods of nature in the wild places. A full time artist and author, he has written 16 books illustrated with his paintings and eight dvd/videos on David's techniques in watercolour have been produced by APV Films. Through his painting and writing he hopes to bring about a greater awareness of the threats to the natural environment, and he is particularly active in conserving the wild areas.

Jenny Keal paints predominately in Pastel and her main interest is in vernacular architecture but she also draws her inspiration from the rich history of the landscape and the atmospheric effects of the weather.

Jenny has written 'Painting with Pastels' and there is also a DVD with the same name.

David and Jenny have tutored Painting Holidays abroad with us since 2014 and we are delighted to team us with them again in September 2018 on our eight day holiday painting in Andalucia.
