Day 1: Travel by Eurostar direct from St Pancras to Avignon.
On arrival, transfer by coach to our hotels, the Bristol Hotel or the Avignon Grand.
Day 2: Morning visits to Uzès and the Pont du Gard with the afternoon free.
The delightful hilltop town of Uzès sits on the source of the Eure, the river that supplied the Roman town of Nimes via the Pont du Gard aqueduct in the 1st century BC. Its narrow streets are wonderfully atmospheric and perfect for strolling. The Pont du Gard is a remarkable symbol of the engineering capabilities of the Romans. Built over the Gardon River in 19BC and remarkably preserved, at 48 metres, it is the highest bridge the Romans ever constructed.
Day 3: Full day tour to Orange and Chateauneuf-du- Pape.
From the lovely town of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, known for its excellent antiques market, we approach Orange through the countryside. Home to two of the finest Roman monuments in Europe; the Theatre Antique d’Orange and the Arc de Triomphe, Orange’s old town is also worth exploring with its Hotel de Ville, Notre Dame Cathedral and peaceful shady squares. The Popes of Avignon built Chateauneuf (new castle) and the surrounding vineyards which now produce one of the finest Côtes du Rhône red wines in the world. There is plenty of opportunity for tastings in the attractive village.
Day 4: Full day tour to Arles, Les Baux de Provence and the Camargue.
Arles is best known for its fine Roman arena, baths and theatre – there are lovely views over the town from the arena’s top tier. It was also the sometime home of artists Van Gogh and Gauguin. The ancient, ruined citadel of Les Baux clings to a high ridge of the Alpilles range, a stark contrast to its bustling, Renaissance other half situated just below. An area of outstanding natural beauty, the Camargue is a nature-lover’s paradise, famed for its flamingos and white horses.
Day 5: Full day to relax and explore Avignon at your leisure.
Avignon is perhaps the most rewarding city in Provence. Home to Popes in the early part of the Middle Ages and a centre of art for centuries, the old is separated from the modern by the restored medieval ramparts. Within you’ll find the impressive Palais des Papes, excellent museums and lovely old churches.
Day 6: Full day tour to Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon.
The elegant city of Aix-en-Provence is immediately attractive with its medieval centre a knot of grand architecture and atmospheric lanes, peppered with fountained squares. Home to artist Paul Cézanne, you will find his studio preserved exactly as he left it on his death in 1906. There are many lovely cafes to sit in and watch the world go by along the Cours Mirabeau. A spectacular area, the Luberon starts out as lush foothills covered with vineyards and farmland before peaking in an area of rugged cliffs, rough-hewn gorges and rustic villages. Like many of the region’s villages, picturesque Gordes tumbles down the Luberon foothills and makes a wonderful place to wander.
Day 7: Transfer by coach back to Avignon station to catch the return TGV to Lille. At Lille, board the return Eurostar service to St Pancras.
NB: Exact order of itinerary of Provence by rail may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion.
Please note the maximum group size on this tour is 41 passengers.
PLEASE NOTE: As with most trains, passengers are responsible for carrying baggage onto and off the train. Baggage can be stored on overhead shelves or at the entrance to the carriages.Trollies are available at St Pancras and Lille, but bags do need to be carried on to the platform.
Travel Editions recommends a luggage delivery service called thebaggageman, where your suitcase can be picked up from your home before departure and delivered straight to your hotel; therefore removing the worry about carrying your cases onto and off the trains. Please click here for more information and we have arranged a 10% discount exclusive to Travel Editions clients off the thebaggageman service. Tel: 01844 264890
You have a choice of two centrally based hotels in Avignon for your stay: the three-star Bristol Hotel (included in price) or upgrade to the four-star Avignon Grand.
Bristol Hotel Located on the main throughfare in central Avignon, the Bristol Hotel enjoys a superb location in the heart of the city. Facilities at this traditional three-star hotel include bar and comfortable bedrooms with private bath/shower, TV and telephone. There is also a ground floor brasserie serving inexpensive meals throughout the day under separate management.
Avignon Grand The superior four-star Avignon Grand Hotel, is located directly opposite the old city walls and a 10 minute walk to the main square. All rooms are spacious with modern facilities. Unfortunately, the Avignon Grand does not offer a restaurant for individual guests but a room service menu is available as well as many excellent restaurants nearby. Please note that there is a supplement applicable to upgrade to the four-star Avignon Grand.
OUR VIEW ON THE HOTELSOur two hotels in Avignon are excellent in their category and both have superb central locations. The Bristol is a traditional family-owned three-star, whilst the four-star Avignon offers more stylish and sophisticated accommodation - both have a bar but no restaurant though Avignon's myriad of excellent restaurants are within an easy stroll of both.

A really lovely tour that we would be happy to repeat. Angela was an excellent tour manager who was a pleasure to be with. Her love of France shone through as did her detailed knowledge of the area and we were all entertained by her many anecdotes. We were lucky both with the glorious weather and the friendly group we were with. Eirlys and Mike Plumb
Review by Plumb who travelled 21-September-2018
Angel tour mgr just 5-star++++! Her commentary informative and full of anecdotes. Large group of 33 was a shocker, but everyone was accommodating and very friendly, especially to the 3 solo travelers. The destinations were unexpected joys, particularly Gordes, and the thrilling vistas we saw on foto stops. Blessed with fine weather. Lots of opportunities to take off for independent mini-adventures. So well organized that all ran smoothly and in great comfort & confidence. I couldn't be more pleased and would encourage all friends to take this trip.

Lovely holiday with excellent manager, Gerard and driver Didier. Nice small group of 20. I would have liked more time at Orange and less at Chateauneuf-du-pape but that's a minor niggle.

A wonderful holiday. Not too fast a pace and the places visited were well chosen and not too far to travel, including some gems that we would have missed had we not been part of this tour. Gerard was so knowledgeable in so may fields, we feel lucky to have had his services on our tour. Absolutely first rate!
Review by who travelled 07-September-2018
Tour Manager Gerard was excellent, supremely knowledgeable, entertaining and friendly. Coach driver Didier had a delightful personality and was a first class driver. Hotel was more than adequate, clean and comfortable with friendly staff, well situated and offering an excellent breakfast. Lack of tea/coffee making faclities in one's room and old-fashioned shower with no wall attachment the only downsides.
Review by Vernier who travelled 07-September-2018
Our guide, Angela, was excellent. Helpful, entertaining, and a mine of information about the places we visited and she included a few visits extra to the itinerary, which were well worth seeing. Altogether a great holiday despite unsettled weather. Would recommend.

We enjoyed the holiday. Never been to the south of France before. 5. Hours in Axis seemed over kill, such an early started too. We would like to travel with your company again and sure we will in the near future.
Review by Feeney who travelled 17-December-2018
Very good journey to Avignon by Eurostar. Return journey by TGV our seats were double booked - uncomfortable journey in the luggage compartment - very poor! Eurostar at Lille hold up over tickets. We were delighted to have Karen as our tour manager again. She has a lightness of touch and is very efficient. She had a lot of problems to contend with on our journey home. We hope we shall receive some recompense for this TGV error. We found Hotel Bristol very comfortable in just the right part of the City and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Review by Hampton who travelled 29-September-2017
Ref accommodation: hotel basic. No kettle making life difficult. Boring breakfast with scrambled and little sausages everyday. Why no tomatoes or mushrooms? Sightseeing tours: some tours in the afternoon e.g. Aix were rushed because of a late start or early delays. An evening meal for the party on the first night would have been very useful in helping people to get to know each other. (We were still asking people for their names on the train on the way home!) However we did enjoy the holiday and visited some picturesque places. The chaos with double booking on the return rail journey spoiled the end of the holiday and made it extremely tiring and worrying.
Review by Hayselden who travelled 29-September-2017
Good holiday almost ruined by fiasco of return journey.
Review by Day who travelled 29-September-2017
1. No of passengers travelled 23. Why does it stick at 10?? 2. Poor shower/bath in our room, which did not work properly. 3. Last day,- we should have spent longer in Aix-en Provence (2 hours was too rushed) and less time in Roussillon, which is a small place. 4. Serious problem on return with double booking of seat reservations on TGV train Avignon to Lille. This appeared to be poor communications by Eurostar booking office if Travel Editions had not been told of changes in seat numbers. At Lille, we had to wait which new seat bookings were arranged. Tour manager very helpful.
Review by Price who travelled 29-September-2017
A thoroughly enjoyable week in Provence, numbers of the party were just right and our guide Karen ensured we had all the information required for a superb holiday . She must be congratulated for her prompt resolution of the problems experienced on the return journey by some of the party, whose seats had been double booked by Eurostar . It is difficult to allot sufficient time to every town/village visited to suite all tastes, we for instance would have preferred more time in Orange and no stop at Chateauneuf Du Pap, but that is a very small point in what was otherwise an excellent itinerary.
Review by Mellows who travelled 29-September-2017
Everything went smoothly apart from double booking on return journey and Karen was a terrific support. Would have welcomed chance to get to know other members of the group better - maybe optional dinner together on the first night?

Review by Mr Gordon Currie who travelled 09-June-2017
The direct train from London to Avignon was brilliant. The Bristol Hotel in Avignon was excellent for its purpose; centrally located, good-sized, clean rooms, welcoming and helpful staff, good air conditioning, excellent breakfasts. The tour manager was knowledgeable and resourceful, for example in organising an extra visit to Fontaine-de- Vaucluse to supplement what would have been an underfilled day visiting Orange and Chateauneuf du Pape. On the journey home, the train from Avignon was seriously delayed, meaning we missed the scheduled connection at Lille, but Steven was able to arrange for us to board the immediately following London train, thus minimising our delay to 1 hour overall. A very good tour all round, and good value for money.
Review by Mrs Myra Jeffreys who travelled 09-June-2017
We seemed to have more free time in Avignon than we anticipated. The trips off were okay but we didn't get a lot of useful info. All in all the holiday was successful. We had a delay waiting for the train departing from Avignon but the tour manager did very well by getting us back to UK. I had to travel to Darlington and luckily I caught the last evening train but it had been a very long day and I didn't get home until way after midnight. I was travelling alone and it was a bit scary. I had to take a taxi home which cost me £50 which I wouldn't have had to get if we hadnt had the delay
Review by Mrs Audrey Taylor who travelled 09-June-2017

Review by Mr D Van De Vat who travelled 09-June-2017
Steve very supportive when my husband had an accident and had to go to hospital ( day surgery ) Hotel: we found the Bristol good, lovely staff, excellent breakfast. Trips:as the weather was very hot we found that we could not make the most of the afternoons in the towns, just had to seek out cafes and miss many sites. It would have been so much better to go there in the morning.
Review by Mrs Rosemary Boa who travelled 09-June-2017
The holiday itself was excellent, a good mixture of day tours and time to ourselves in Avignon. Always given sufficient time at the sights. Journey home was delayed because of delayed TGV at Avignon, Steve the tour manager, did a great job of getting us on to a Eurostar at Lille only an hour behind where we should have been.

Review by Mr Philip Wallis who travelled 21-April-2017
November proved a little disappointing because of several museums, galleries being closed for the winter, or for just being a Monday. Also, there never seemed to be enough time to enjoy lunch without careful clockwatching. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable holiday with good company and good value for the time of year.

Avignon is an excellent base. The transfer time from train to hotel is short and the hotel is well-placed for the attractions and restaurants. The hotel is comfortable and breakfast plentiful. The bedroom was of a good size and the air-conditioning effective. There was a safe in the room and adequate storage space. The bathroom was OK but we would have preferred a walk-in shower and why is it that hotel rooms rarely have well-placed mirrors! Alex was excellent, always helpful and informative and we hope to travel with him again.
Review by Mrs Eileen Phipps who travelled 12-May-2016

Would have preferred a more restful first day, with a chance to explore Avignon before visiting other places. Coach driver, Bernard, and vehicle excellent. Not a good idea to visit the town with the Sunday market on the last day. Far too many stalls and people to appreciate the place itself. A longer time in La Fontaine village would have been enjoyable.
Review by Mr D Kenyon who travelled 22-September-2015
Serge Bertini our guide was double first class!! Bernard our coach driver too was excellent and a lovely man. There never seemed enough time to see everything but i decided to treat it as a recce - I liked the fact that we were left to get on with it when visitiing places - one of the reasons I booked with Travel Editions. The hotel Bristol had great breakfast, lovely staff but the decor was dull and the lighting appalling. I did mention the lighting to them and they said i had one of the worst lit rooms (the trials of being a single occupancy) and would do something about it. It could do with a general update, but the location was great. I would be interested in travelling with you again. It was all so brilliantly organised, thank you!

A very good experience of Provence. We learnt a great deal and enjoyed it all. Very professional company and tour guide was excellent. Thank you.
Review by Mrs Liz Edwards who travelled 22-September-2015
Bristol Hotel. Room was clean and functional but I had to move a dressing table to access the only sockets (to be able to use hair styling equipment, charge phones etc) and there was no mirror over it. Also disconcerting that there were no blinds in the bathroom, just net curtains which are no good if you need to turn the light on. So early morning you risked giving the pool man on the roof opposite an eyeful, or indeed the guests swimming in the pool at dusk. Location excellent. Angela and our lovely coach driver Nicolas, worked very well together and there was a lovely balance of short drives and sight seeing. The list of restaurants recommended by previous travellers Angela gave us was very useful. Trains would have scored more if we hadn't had to run the length of the platform at Avignon as they completely switched the carriages round with no notice!
Review by Mrs D Steer who travelled 10-September-2015
This was my first coach holiday and my biggest concern was being dragged around by a guide waving a flag. Angela was superb, she gave us plenty of information and allowed us to decide what to do in all the destinations. The group got on well together without living in each others pockets. The trip was an excellent introduction to one of the few areas of France I have never visited.
Review by Mr Alan Learney who travelled 10-September-2015
The holiday was excellent and ideal for exploring an area where you stay in one place and the trips were all arranged. The hotel was good and the staff helpful. Angela was an excellent tour manager and briefed us on tour and travel arrangements as we went along. I liked the fact that she travelled with us and kept us together as a group. The only problem was on the day to Orange and Chateauneuf. The walk down from the castle into the town was very difficult for Mum and would be a problem for anyone who has a problem with steps. There needs to be an option to stay on the coach and go down to the village that way.

This is the second time we have done this trip and our fourth time with Travel Editions. We both really liked Alex who was very "french", but having experienced Norman in the past, there were times when we felt Alex was a bit disorganised. He did'nt wait to see everyone off the coach, which did'nt bother us, but I heard annoyed a few travellers. On our final day the weather was not good, not his fault, but we spent a couple of hours just driving past endless vineyards in the Chateauneuf de Pape area, in the pouring rain. Not a major problem but possibly food for thought about an alternative in the event of bad weather. This has not put us off Travel Editions as we are already looking at your Corsica tour. Very best wishes to Alex, a big fan of Kenneth Williams and the British sense of humour!!

Iwould like alonger or moreextended tour as Ifeel thereis not quite enough time at each destination an I would like an extra free afternoon Iknow this would mean extra hotel charge included in the price but an extra night would be worth it We had excellent weather which probably makes a difference but in Arles we didn't get enough time to eat and see all the arena. We liked the 9.00a.m. start Iwouldn't want to start earlier.

This was the most enjoyable escorted tour we have been on (out of 7). A great itinerary meant not getting up too early, plenty of free time and an excellent cross section of tours. Alex, the tour manager, was great and really added to the enjoyment of the holiday. The Grand Hotel was better than we expected - we think we were upgraded to a suite. Avignon was an ideal base with lots of interesting sights and a superb selection of restaurants. Would thoroughly recommend this tour.

Alex was a fantastic guide in all ways. He was informative, funny and took care of all the group extremely well. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly but our room had an unpleasant odour and was incredibly dark at all times. Not much point in investing in eco- lighting if they have to be on constantly.

We would have liked less driving round the Camarge, Luberon etc in the coach and more time in the wonderful villages and towns. In particular, Arles was going to be the highlight of our holiday but we only had time to briefly visit the ampitheatres.

We enjoyed our holiday very much. Our tour manager Helene was excellent and Bruno our coach driver went out of his way to show us any extras he could think of. The hotel staff also were very helpful. We would definitely recommend this holiday. Thank you.

The "Poor" rating for Admin and Brochure relates to the organisation of the free day. Originally billed for the Friday, the final joining instructions said it would be on the Thursday, but when I met the Tour Manager she said that was a mistake, and the free day WOULD be on the Friday. 24 hours later she retracted that statement, and the free day was in fact the Thursday. This was an issue for us as we had arranged to meet some UK friends on the free day in Aix-en-Provence, and the meeting had to be abandoned. As the rail journey from Avignon to Aix involves a TGV train, we had to prebook, and we had to ditch our tickets.
Review by Mr Stewart Rainbow who travelled 16-June-2015
The tour to Uzes was on market day where the streets were taken up by a very large market so really could not see anything of which is a beautiful town. The following day we were taken to yet another street market in another town (not listed on the itinerary) so again could not get an idea of what the town looked liked. Two markets in two days is not really what I signed up for.

Our Tour Manager, Serge Bertini, and our driver, Bruno, did everything one would expect extremely well but, in addition, did a number of extra helpful things that they did not need to do. Serge was very knowledgeable and good humoured. and Bruno was an excellent and safe driver. We would be very happy to travel with either or both of them again. All the organisation was efficient and on time. Well done

Wonderful holiday. Serge was the perfect tour manager, he arranged little extras which made such a difference. Having no dining room in the hotel could have made it difficult for me as a lone female at evening meals. It didn't as people were very friendly but I would consider it carefully in the future. Hope to go with you again next year, to Spain?

We thought that the background info given by the tour guide was very, very comprehensive and well delivered. The tours themselves could have been better arranged and, whole day and a half in Avignon was too much. Also long bank holiday did not make life easy, many good restaurants closed. We thought that the very wet day was rather unpleasant, we would have liked to stay on the coach rather than get soaked looking around the Roman ruins. But this was not contemplated. The last day was a bit difficult, what with the weather and, one person late to return to the bus, the trip to the Camargue was nearly dark by the time we arrived. Then on to the next stop. We think we should have returned to Avignon and left out the last stop. Although we have said all this, we wish to say that we thought the trip was good value for money and, your organisation excellent and attentive.

Our tour guide and driver handled a large group of 41 very well. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, with the hotel position being well chosen for access to the centre, by walking.....see below We were concerned, at times, for the passengers with mobility challenges when there was a lot of walking involved, eg to get from coach park to actual Pont du Gard. Maybe more info re this in tour details?

Travel Editions feedback:
Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed your tour overall. For 2015 we have introduced a clear guide to how much walking is involved on each tour in our brochure and we have also added a departure date limited to 35 passengers, but it is more expensive.
Poor trip to Chateauneuf du Pape. No wine tasting, very wet. Poorly organised We had to make our own travel arrangements due to our late booking.

The trip to Arles was slightly disappointing as places of interest were closed on the day we visited. The "day off" in Avignon was really brilliant as it gave us the time to take in all the sites slowly.

All tours excellent but would have liked an extra hour or two in the Carmargue and a visit to a National Park Centre/Field Study Centre to enhance the trip and the experience of the Carmargue.
Review by Mr Gary Marshall who travelled 01-October-2014
Enjoyed the holiday very much. The tour manager, Norman was excellent. He was very informative with a great enthusiasm for the area. I would have liked to have visited more off the beaten track areas rather than so many Roman remains. I felt that some all day tours tried to take in too much and would have liked more time in the Camargue and the smaller villages. All in all very enjoyable though.

Many museums are closed on Monday so it might be worth reviewing the timing of the visit to Arles. It would be helpful if the Bristol kept it's bar open after 9pm. Overall the holiday was excellent. The guide was very good, created a sense of calm. The Bristol is very comfortable for a 3 star hotel.

This was an excellent holiday and very well organised. I have had a great holiday. It was my first for several years and it really did offer me what I was looking for. I felt very happy being a solo traveller with this company. However the train seat on TGV were a bit random I found myself sitting in the bullet head section of the train in a smallish carriage. Think I might have preferred a seat in the routine carriages with a little more space. The tour operator did check on me and at one stage we spoke about moving but the train did empty and fill again so I'm pleased I stayed in the same seat Thank you I will be checking your company again for another holiday Denise

Our Tour Manager was really excellent: knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and fun. We enjoyed the holiday and it is a superb location but would have preferred slightly fewer excursions as sometimes it seemed we saw too much and not enough time to enjoy it properly. This is a personal opinion but some others we spoke to felt the same. The hotel was satisfactory but it would have helped if the bar was open later as we could have had a last drink and maybe mixed more with the others in our party. Lastly, the Eurostar terminal in Gare du Nord is awful (Lille is fine) but I know there's not much you can do about that.

Overall a good trip which we enjoyed especially with Karen our tour manager as her knowledge of the region was helpful and the suggestions she made were good. Good hotel (which we had stayed in before) and the times each tour started in the mornings was preferable to a previous trip we made with another company where we were leaving between 7.30 & 8.00 each day. Slightly disappointed that 3 out of the 4 train journeys we made meant we were travelling backwards but full marks to the coach drivers we had for our trips. We could have done with longer for some trips - the Camargue and it was unfortunate that we were on the coast on a bank holiday; we also felt that 2 tours a day is maximum - on one day we had 4 stops.
Review by Mrs Margaret Steer who travelled 04-June-2014
The weather was hotter than expected and we felt that there could have been adjustments to the itinerary to reflect this e.g. Sunday longer at Fontaine de Vaucluse which had quiet cafes and shaded areas and less time at L'Isle sur la Sorgue which was the third market we'd visited and was busy and hot. However this is just a small issue overall we were impressed with the tour and would consider another with you.
Review by Mr Geoffrey Rowlands who travelled 04-June-2014
Extremely well organised tour led by a very knowledgable tour guide. In addition to the better known sights, including Orange, Pont Du Gard and Arles, we visited some little gems. This was our first tour with Travel Editions and we would have no hesitation in using the company again. The only downside to the trip was having to transfer across Paris at the end of the trip. Our outward journey via Lille was ideal.
Review by Mrs Frances Mulhall who travelled 04-June-2014
I enjoyed the tour very much, in spite of the high temperature and humidity, for which I cannot, and will not, blame Travel Editions! This group sight-seeing holiday is not the sort of holiday I have been on much in the past and I realised that it was inevitable that there would be activities I would like to have spent more time on and others on which I would have liked to have spent less. In the event, there were few; more time at the Pond du Gard and at Vacluse would have been nice, as would less time alternately stewing and frying in the market at Ile sur la Sorge, but in general I was very happy with the schedule. With a group of over forty, I couldn't get to know everybody, but many I did and all were very friendly. I was especially happy with the half day in the Camargue; natural history holidays are, in fact, more my "thing" and I was managing my expectations of what I could expect on a more general tour. In the event my expectations were well exceeded. We birders being devils for making lists, (and also because I was asked), I though it would be nice to leave a list of what we DID see.... White horses .... lots of these, in paddocks, fields AND in the wild, Bulls, also lots, Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), - I'm quite sure these were what we saw but I have since learnt that there are also great white egrets present locally, as big as herons and with yellow bills; I don't THINK we saw any of those, Black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Grey heron (Ardea cinerea), Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides) - I THINK, it was a very short glimpse, Black kite (Milvus migrans), Some other big birds of prey, possibly Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus) but not sure, Bee-eater (Merops apiaster), two, sitting in a tree... White stork (Ciconia ciconia) - by the second stop there were grey heron and white stork nesting in the same tree, The small warbler singing from a tree at the first stop will have to remain a mystery I'm afraid. Also, nesting on the Palais des Papes, were Black redstart. At the Port du Gard were:- Common swift (they were everywhere in fact) and Alpine swift (bigger, with white undersides) Sand martin (Riparia riparia). Not a bad tally for a general sight-seeing tour! I'm already booked on Art and Architecture in Ravenna, and I fancy the Jura trip as well; never mind the rain so it be cooler! Best Wishes, Trevor Davis (email@example.com)

Our second year running on a French holiday with Travel Editions and we had a most enjoyable time based in Avignon. Once again, we visited a lot of places in just six days. Our Tour Manager - Karen Blackwell, was excellent - very informative and professional in every way.
Review by Mr Brian Young who travelled 04-June-2014
We would have liked more free time. The tours were interesting but too busy. Our tour was perhaps not helped by very hot weather (35 degrees+ at times). It was a pity the journey back to London had to be re-arranged so that we changed at Paris rather than Lille. Paris was a nightmare for traffic (that is not unusual) and it took a long time to cross from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord. The tour manager spoke good French which was good but sometimes her timekeeping was as good as it should have been. Like many tour guides she tended to speak too much!! It was a good holiday overall as Avignon is an interesting place.
