This lovely tour is based around two delightful annual events: the Nice Carnival and the Menton Lemon Festival. The earliest record of the Nice Carnival is 1294, making it one of the world's oldest carnival celebrations. For two weeks every February and March, Nice is full of open air music performances, parades, processions and carnival cheer. The Menton Lemon Festival, in its 86th year, is quite unique where locals use citrus fruit to create huge exhibitions and statues along a set theme - the results are truly impressive.

Day 1: Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris and onwards to Nice by TGV.
On arrival, transfer by coach to the hotel.
Day 2: Morning tour of Nice with the afternoon free.
The capital of the Riviera, Nice is a buzzing city full of culture, excellent restaurants and good shopping. There are distinct districts - the medieval quarter, the Italianate quarter that belies Nice’s past as part of Italy and plenty of rich mansions that shows past pedigree as one of the most fashionable resorts in Europe. There are plenty of excellent museums to explore, and the vibrant Promenade des Anglais to stroll along.
Day 3: Full day in Nice with the chance to view the Flower Parade (ticket not included - please visit the Nice Carnival Website for more information).
Evening seated ticket (included) for the Carnival Parade of Lights. For two weeks every February and March, Nice is full of open air music performances, parades, processions and carnival cheer. There are parades daily with numerous floats and over 1000 musicians and dancers taking part. You have a seated ticket to enjoy the evening parade included but you will be able to purchase extra tickets for other parades whilst in Nice if you wish. The theme for 2019 is ‘King of Cinema’.
Day 4: Full day tour to Menton with seated tickets to the Lemon Festival Parade.
Right on the border, Menton exudes Italianate charm from its picturesque position ringed by mountains. The Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) is the resort’s biggest annual event. You’ll find 10 metre tall citrus-covered installations in the Biovès Gardens and a colourful parade with each float bearing over 140 tonnes of fruit! We have also included the ‘Exhibition of Citrus Patterns in the Jardins Bioves’ to view the sculptures up close. The Theme for 2019 is 'Fantastic Worlds'.
Day 5: Full day tour to Grasse and the Gorges du Loup.
The medieval hill town of Grasse has been the capital of perfume concoction for nearly 300 years. In the midst of fields planted with an array of fragrant blooms, the town has a museum dedicated to the art of parfumiers as well as lovely old streets to wander. Famous for the fortified villages that perch along the steep sides formed by the River Loup, the Gorges du Loup offer wonderful views and dramatic cascades.
Day 6: Full day tour to Vence and Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
A hilltop town full of charm, Vence is interlaced by narrow streets and dotted with lovely squares. It was popular with painters, including Picasso, thanks to its excellent light and it was here that Matisse was involved in the architectural design and decoration of the Chapelle du Rosaire. Saint-Paul-de-Vence was a magnet for artists throughout the 20th century, and the village is dominated by studios and galleries. You can visit the Colombe d’Or restaurant where painters, including Picasso, traded paintings for meals and accommodation. You’ll also find the Fondation Maeght Museum of Modern Art here.
Day 7: Full day tour to Biot, Antibes and Cap d’Antibes.
The hill town of Biot was a centre for pottery between the 16th and 18th century, a tradition reborn in the mid-20th century when the town once again became famous for its decorative pottery and glasswork. The lively resort of Antibes has a lovely old town and one of the world’s best Picasso collections in the old seafront, Chateau Grimaldi – entrance to the collection is included. Author Graham Greene was a resident here for 20 years. The Cap d’Antibes hides many a sumptuous villa in its pine woods, an area frequented by the likes of F Scott Fitzgerald in its 1920s heyday.
Day 8: Transfer back to Nice station to catch the return TGV to Paris. At Paris, board the return Eurostar service to St Pancras.
NB: Exact order of itinerary may vary according to departure date, the carnival programme, local conditions, and tour manager's discretion.
Please note the maximum group size on this tour is 49 passengers.
PLEASE NOTE: as with most trains, passengers are responisble for carrying baggage onto and off the train. Baggage can be stored on overhead shelves or at the entrance to the carriages. Trollies are available at St Pancras, but bags do need to be carried onto the platform.
Travel Editions recommends a luggage delivery service called thebaggageman, where your suitcase can be picked up from your home before departure and delivered straight to your hotel; therefore removing the worry about carrying your cases onto and off the trains. Excellent guide - excursions all good except visit to glass-blowing which was rather under-whelming. We decided to arrange our own flights rather than Eurostar/TGV and surprisingly this worked out cheaper (and clearly was less arduous!). The change of dates was inconvenient but we were pleased that you were able to arrange for us to keep the original dates chosen, although we were disappointed to miss the walking tour of Nice as a result. The size of the merged tour party was too large. Weather disappointing!!!

The Eurostar tickets were not accepted at the barrier at St Pancras and we had to be re-allocated tickets by the customer service desk. This took some time but fortunately the train was delayed. On arrival at the hotel there did not seem to be a reservation for us as our room had been allocated to another guest. We felt that the hotel staff were not sufficiently concerned to sort out the problem. We were fortunate that our excellent Tour Manager, Karen, was on hand to sort the matter out for us. We have travelled with you many times and this is the first occasion on which we have had problems.

Travel Editions feedback:
Very sorry to learn of the poor start to your tour but very pleased to learn that your tour manager saved the day - one advantage of an escorted tour...the hotel apparently couldn't cope with different passengers having the same name!
Well organised day trips out. Seats for the festivals were in good settings. Karen, our tour manager, was a wonderful and helpful person, she has a lovely temperament and suited this role. The proximity of the hotel to activities, restaurants and shops was excelllent.

Lilly to Nice train filthy windows so couldn't make out any view. No hot drinks at all available throughout journey and later on when we tired of water/juice ..... they'd run out of wine.
Review by Strawson who travelled 21-February-2018
Good tour,p plenty to see and do. The tour manager Karen was excellent and dealt with every unexpected occurrence in a professional and calm manner. Excellent.
Review by who travelled 21-February-2018
We enjoyed all that was offered but we will never go on a holiday again that involves a train journey through the length of France. The outward journey was marred by the fact that there were no hot drinks available on the train from Lille. The inward journey was marred by that dreadful drag through the streets with our cases when we got to Paris. Surely it would be possible to offer an alternative by air. Two of our party actually went home by air because they couldn't stand the thought of the train journey.
Review by Read who travelled 21-February-2018
The train journey was very long the train was dirty, uncomfortable and food and drink ran out. Would have been good to offer a flight to Nice which is what we did on the return journey as we could not face it again. The hotel was wonderful, very nice and comfortable room, great location and very good selection for breakfast. The tours were very good and the festivals very enjoyable. Would have been good to include the ticket for the gardens at the Lemon Festival this was the most interesting part and something everyone wanted to see, instead of having to queue up for them. Karen the tour guide was excellent providing lots of information about the places we visted. Overall a good tour.

The success of this holiday was mostly down to the guide Alex and the interesting and varied itinerary .Right from the start he was very friendly attentive ,and knowledgeable on all subjects .We particularly liked his knowledge of the flora and fauna and anecdotes about people who had visited the area both historical and recent.
Review by Kerry who travelled 15-February-2018
Admin is only satisfactory because after our initial booking we heard no more until I rang after Christmas to find out whether we were still on for the tour. Apparently we had not received an intervening email but it was quickly put right by your staff. Overall we were greatly impressed.
Review by Liddle who travelled 15-February-2018
Very good co-ordination of travel arrangements. Hotel well situated with very helpful, pleasant staff . The Nice Carnival and Menton Lemon Festival exceeded our expectations, and the additional excursions were most enjoyable. A particular mention, Alex Patrimonio, our Tour Manager was outstanding, his personality, knowledge and willingness to help were excellent.
Review by Smith who travelled 15-February-2018
Tour leader was very entertaining, well-informed and low key, not intrusive or over organising. Hotel staff were excellent. Hotel well positioned near centre of Nice. Very good breakfasts. Walking tour of Nice and the guide were excellent. We organised our own flights, did not use train.

The trip was a first for us, never having used a tour company, and we could not have enjoyed it more had we organised it ourselves. Everything run really smoothly and efficiently and our guide Alex was an absolute gem. He made the excursions come to life and enhanced our total enjoyment of the visit. The hotel was also extremely comfortable, with friendly staff and nothing was ever a problem for them. Beautiful little garden and five minutes walk from the seafront - couldn't ask for more - well maybe more sunshine but it is February !! Would not hesitate to use Travel Editions in future and recommend to friends and family.

Great trip made memorable by Alex's attention to detail.
Review by Scoones who travelled 15-February-2018
Alex, our tour manager, was brilliant - knowledgeable, informative, friendly, relaxed, organised, humorous. We very much enjoyed the trips - especially Vence and St. Paul de Vence. For us, the Nice Carnival and Menton Lemon Festival were the least appealing aspects of the holiday - we're glad we saw them but don't feel the need to see them again. Brice Garden Hotel was also very good.

Review by Mr Rodney Griffin who travelled 16-February-2017
As far as the hotel room is concerned, there was a distinctive lack of drawer space and why do so many hotels with beds for two only include one chair!? The education of the bar staff needs improving - on one occasion when asked for a brandy the reply was "What sort of brandy would you like - whisky or cognac"! They also ran out of blended whisky on the second night and did not replace it. Serge was a very good tour manager - always around to help without being obtrusive and an absolute mine of information.

I would say that a lot of the enjoyment on our holiday is due to your 5star host Serge Bertini a delightful & very knowledgeable chap a great asset to your company info we sent our20kg suitcase with Sendmybag.com £31 each way without any problems - they use DHL
Review by Mr Lyn Baxter who travelled 23-February-2017
Getting on and off trains was difficult, and with no escalator or lift at Nice, particularly difficult for my partner whose movement is impaired. The hotel room had a smashed mirror door. I had to asked to be taped and was not mended while we were there so not good.
Review by Mrs Linda Wilcos who travelled 23-February-2017
What an excellent trip in all ways. I particularly liked that we were not herded together as a group. The hotel and its staff delightful and helpful. Our guide, Sandra, could not have been more attentive nor informative. Itinerary proved wonderful. Thank you all.
Review by Mrs Andrew Johnstone who travelled 16-February-2017
Hotel room rather cramped and a bit old fashioned.Breakfasts were good and the service too was very good. Serge the tour manager was very helpful and gave very interesting commentaries. For those of us from the north, it would be helpful if you had a discounted arrangement with a local hotel in St Pancras. We had to stay overnight going out and it was very expensive. No problem of course for those travelling from the south.
Review by Mrs Kathleen Kirkbright who travelled 23-February-2017
We had a great holiday with very good value for money. Our guide Serge and our coach driver were superb and so very helpful.
Review by Mrs Rosemary Miller who travelled 23-February-2017
Serge was spot on ,really knew his job ,with a great sense of humour. Did feel time was wasted in Vence. Not a very attractive place to spend time. But that is a very small Part of the whole holiday. The rest of our trips were really wonderful .
Review by Mrs Carole Gayler who travelled 23-February-2017
Serge was very well informed and helpful

Extremely good value trip, packed with well organised activities. Serge, the tour manager, was wonderfully well informed and looked after us as family. We will certainly look at other trips organised by yourselves.
Review by Mrs Patricia Reid who travelled 23-February-2017
Tour Manager, Serge, was most efficient, informative and amusing.
Review by Mrs Diana Guppy who travelled 23-February-2017
We were very fortunate to have Sandra McGill as tour leader. Very practical, knowledgeable and endlessly patient. A real asset to your company. The only slight niggle was a very long first day and arriving so late in Nice. Maybe consider a 2 night stop in Avignon, plenty to see and breaks the journey a bit. But much enjoyed and will definitely book again with your team. Single supplements are high, any chance of reconsidering these? Can quote me anonymously on website.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Our tour manager was especially helpful and informative. She was a fund of interesting and often amusing information about the area and its history throughout the trip.

Wonderful holiday with a bonus at the end. Our hotel had been double booked and they transferred us to a suite at the Marriot Park Lane - WOW So all in all it was a fantastic trip - Sandra was a super guide - hope to meet up with her again.
Review by Mrs Valerie Elms who travelled 16-February-2017
This trip was very enjoyable with a full included programme and the efforts of our tour guide Sandra made it even better.
Review by Mr John Lingard who travelled 16-February-2017
The hotel was very tired but adequate. We felt the staff were not as diligent as they might have been but perhaps that was due to the refurbishment and a slight lack of interest. Reception were very friendly and helpful. Sandra, the tour manager, was superb and made every day interesting with her stories and descriptions.
Review by Mrs Christine Godsell who travelled 16-February-2017
Excellent holiday which could only be improved in two very minor areas. Long walks with luggage at stations were a disappointment. Tour manager was excellent, one of the best that we have ever had. However a very very minor criticism is that sometimes on tours she did not stop talking and an occasional break whilst we admired scenery would have been welcome

Travel Editions feedback:
Thank you for your comments and yes the long walks at stations is frustrating and we do recommend a company 'The baggageman' to take the strain and have your cases transported from the UK direct to your hotel www.thebaggaeman.com
