Day 2: Broadway and Stanway House and Fountain.

After free time for lunch (not included) it’s off to the lovely Stanway House and Fountain, the inspiration for many Arts & Crafts pioneers, crafted from mellow Cotswold stone. Day 3: Chipping Campden and Hidcote Garden.
This morning we travel to the lovely town of Chipping Campden for a visit to the Court Barn Museum of Craft & Design, the museum used to be a disused barn and over the past ten years has become an award winning museum. While here we will also visit Hart’s Silversmiths workshop, where silver is still hand-crafted in the same workshop used by C.R Ashbee’s silversmiths from 1902 to 1908, and have a walking tour of the historic town. Comfortable room with tasty food for our group. Excellent lecturer & venue speakers, but one of us found the lecturees "somewhat intense". Good space in hotel room, but no drawers & the bathroom door hook was missing. (I did report it.) Lack of communication at Chipping Campden church - not open as planned.

Tour followed on wonderfully from the William Morris Tour we did at the beginning of the month, giving greater insight into the ethos of the A&C movement and exploring the development of the style of the later A&C craftsmen. It also considered the social impact of the Movement on the area. Expert guides at all locations made for a rich and rewarding experience and Prof Anne's evening talks were excellent - enlightening and demonstrating her passion for the subject. Dr Scott is a brilliant Tour Leader, very knowledgeable and entertaining. The hotel was very good: high quality food and wine, comfortable rooms, and extremely helpful staff.

A very enjoyable tour, with excellent organisation and guides. A bit mean not to supply wine with dinner on both nights.

Anne and SCOTT Anderson were outstanding. It is along time since I have heard such a superb speaker as ANNE. The guides in the two Museums were also excellent. Altogether a very interesting and enjoyable time.
