Day 1: London to Tenerife
Fly from London Gatwick to Tenerife, and transfer to the hotel in Puerto de la Cruz.
Day 2: Puerto de la Cruz
Start today with a guided tour of the Puerto de la Cruz Botanical Garden, home to native and tropical plant species, and a 200-year-old fig tree with sprawling roots and branches that create a natural canopy. Continue with a walking tour of the well-preserved historic centre, including the central square Plaza del Charco. Enjoy a tapas lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure before our first concert of the festival. This classical music festival has been held annually since 1985, and draws the best conductors, orchestras, and soloists from around the world.
Day 3: San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Depart for San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 as a unique example of a non-fortified, colonial town. Visit the Iglesia de la Concepción tower for panoramic views. This historic church was originally built in the early 1500s, and is the site where the island’s first Christian mass was celebrated. The colonial Canarian bell tower was completed in 1786. Continue to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island’s capital, for a guided tour of its historic centre. Explore the Museum of Nature and Archaeology, home to fascinating exhibits on the island’s natural history and the mysterious Guanche mummies, offering insight into Tenerife’s indigenous people.
Day 4: Free day
Free day to explore independently or relax.
Day 5: La Orotava and El Sauzal
Visit La Orotava for a guided tour of its colonial architecture and entry to Casa de Los Balcones, a manor house dating back to the 17th century.
Continue to the charming town of El Sauzal for a winery tour, wine tasting, and a Mojo Picón cooking workshop. Enjoy a gourmet lunch of local specialties.
Day 6: Teide National Park and Vilaflor
Visit Teide National Park to explore the island’s dramatic volcanic landscape, endemic flora and fauna. and biodiversity. Continue to nearby Vilaflor, Tenerife’s highest village at 1,400 metres above sea level, on the southern slopes of Mount Teide. Here we enjoy beautiful mountain views, a wine tasting and a traditional “Roseta” lacemaking workshop. Evening festival concert.
Day 7: Free day
Free day at leisure.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast we transfer to the hotel for return flight to London Gatwick.
