Day 1: London to Vienna
Fly from London Heathrow to Vienna. Transfer to the hotel for check-in. In the evening, meet for a welcome drink, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Vienna
Discover the grandeur of Vienna’s UNESCO-listed historic centre on a guided walking tour. Stroll through a city shaped by centuries of Habsburg rule, where opulent Baroque façades, elegant squares and imposing palaces line atmospheric streets. Highlights include the magnificent St Stephen’s Cathedral, whose soaring Gothic spire dominates the skyline. Afterwards, enjoy coffee and cake in a traditional Viennese coffee house. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3: The Wachau Valley & Danube Cruise
Leave the city behind today for an excursion to the picturesque Wachau Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape renowned for its vineyard-clad slopes, medieval towns and dramatic river scenery. Board a relaxing Danube cruise and glide past terraced hillsides, ruined castles and charming villages en route to the delightful town of Spitz. Here, visit a local winery for a leisurely lunch accompanied by tastings of the region’s celebrated wines. Later, return to Vienna by coach, with the remainder of the day free.
Day 4: Mozart & the Vienna State Opera
Begin the day at Mozarthaus Vienna, the composer’s only surviving residence in the city, where he lived during one of his most productive periods. Explore the exhibitions before attending a private concert in the building’s intimate vaulted basement—a memorable way to experience Mozart’s music in an authentic setting. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit to the Vienna State Opera, one of the world’s leading opera houses, and gain insight into its history, architecture and illustrious productions.
Day 5: Schönbrunn Palace & Viennese Traditions
This morning is devoted to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs and a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Tour the lavishly furnished state rooms, offering a fascinating glimpse into imperial life, and wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens. Afterwards, take part in a hands-on demonstration of how to prepare a traditional Viennese apple strudel, followed by a tasting with coffee. The afternoon is free. This evening, you may wish to attend an optional concert at the renowned Musikverein, famed for its superb acoustics.
Day 6: Hofburg, Spanish Riding School & Belvedere
Explore the historic Hofburg complex this morning, once the principal residence of the Habsburg dynasty. Then visit the Spanish Riding School to observe a morning training session, where the famed Lipizzaner stallions perform classical dressage—an enduring symbol of Vienna’s equestrian heritage. In the afternoon, visit the Upper Belvedere, home to an outstanding art collection including Gustav Klimt’s celebrated The Kiss. Continue through the formal gardens to the Lower Belvedere.
Day 7: Kunsthistorisches Museum and Departure
On our final day, we visit the Kunsthistorisches Museum, one of the world’s great art museums, housing the extraordinary collections amassed by the Habsburgs. Admire works by Old Masters such as Bruegel, Rembrandt and Vermeer, alongside classical antiquities and decorative arts. Afterwards, enjoy some free time before transferring to the airport for the return flight to London Heathrow.
