World class art - admire paintings by the Old Masters
Architecture - you’ll see provincial Dutch gems in Delft, Leiden and Gouda

The atmospheric Dutch towns of Delft and Leiden provided much artistic inspiration for two of history's great painters: Vermeer and Rembrandt.
This tour follows in their footsteps, exploring the towns where they were born, as well as visiting world-class art galleries to view some of their works, including the recently reopened Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and Mauritshuis in The Hague featuring Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' which is back in its rightful home after a worldwide tour.

Returning: 16th September 2019 at 17:56
Day 1: Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet to Brussels and onwards by coach to Delft and check-in to the Hampshire Delft Centre Hotel.
NB for 2019 departures we will be using the direct Eurostar service to Rotterdam and 30 minute coach journey to Delft on the outbound journey.
Day 2: Morning walking tour of Delft with the afternoon free.
It isn’t hard to see why Delft is one of the most popular attractions for visitors to the Netherlands – firstly there’s Vermeer, then the town’s famous blue and white ceramics and last but certainly not least the gorgeous centre – a jumble of old tiled houses, tree-lined canals, and lovely little bridges, though it’s the feeling of the place that holds most of the appeal. Wandering the narrow streets is a must, and the Prinsenhof, one of a few fascinating old buildings, has a collection of Golden Age paintings.
Day 3: Full day tour to The Hague and the Mauritshuis collection and Panorama Mesdag.
The Hague is the home of the Dutch government and Parliament and is a pleasant, spacious seaside town. With its multitude of parks, squares and gardens interspersed with elegant boulevards lined with mansions; it is a stately place with an air of being well kept and well moneyed. The Hague has plenty of excellent museums and entrance is included to the Mauritshuis collection which has reopened with a new exhibition space and reception area. The museum retains its intimate atmosphere and has an outstanding collection of Rembrant, Vermeer, Van Dyck and Rubens. Entrance is also included to the incredible Panorama Mesdag, the largest painting in the Netherlands at 120 metres long and 14 metres high.
Day 4: Full day tour to Leiden and Gouda.
Home to one of Europe’s most prestigious universities and the birth place of Rembrandt, Leiden is a vibrant and appealing city. Its beautiful and historic old town, crisscrossed by ancient canals and full of lovely antique buildings, is best explored on foot. The Stedelijk Museum de Lakenhal houses some 17th century Dutch paintings. A typical Dutch country town, Gouda is charming, its old buildings surrounded by quiet canals, known for its cheese. Although it is a fairly small town, Gouda’s Markt square is the largest in the Netherlands, an echo of its days at the centre of the medieval cloth trade and you’ll also find some of the world’s best stained glass in St Janskerk.
Day 5: Full day tour to Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum and Rembrandt’s House.
The largest city and capital of The Netherlands, Amsterdam started life as a small fishing village and became one of the world’s most important ports during the Dutch Golden Age. Wander the narrow atmospheric lanes and canals lined with 17th century merchant’s houses and visit some of the many cultural and historic sights – two of which are included. Reopened after renovation in early 2013, the Rijksmuseum is one of the world’s greatest art galleries with a large collection of Dutch works, particularly Rembrandts, several excellent Vermeers and a huge cache of sculptures and applied arts. The Rembrandt House Museum is based in the house where the artist lived and painted for 20 years before his eviction by creditors and displays a number of his etchings.
Day 6: Morning visit to Antwerp.
We will depart Delft in the morning by coach and transfer to Antwerp. Afternoon transfer to Brussels to board the return Eurostar service to Ebbsfleet or St Pancras.
NB: Exact order of itinerary may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion
Please note the maximum group size on this tour is 49 passengers.
PLEASE NOTE: As with most trains, passengers are responsible for carrying baggage onto and off the train. Baggage can be stored on overhead shelves or at the entrance to the carriages.Trollies are available at St Pancras and Brussels, but bags do need to be carried on to the platform.
Travel Editions recommends a luggage delivery service called thebaggageman, where your suitcase can be picked up from your home before departure and delivered straight to your hotel; therefore removing the worry about carrying your cases onto and off the trains. Gill Thomson is an outstanding tour manager who added much to our enjoyment of the tour. It was a wonderful experience.
Review by Hocombe who travelled 11-July-2018
We had a wonderful holiday and this was due, in large measure, to our outstanding guide Gill. She provides information in such a comprehensive yet unassuming ways with her enlightening commentary on the coach and by distributing good-sized maps with helpful additions. She is very thoughtful and tactful about people's various needs. We very much enjoyed her company.

A well organised tour, with a good itinerary and a very well located hotel. Delft is a lovely town and made an excellent base for the holiday. Gill, our Tour Manager, was helpful, approachable and efficient, exactly what you want from the person in charge! I have toured with Travel Editions before and this tour lived up to all my expections.

Gill Thompson was superb. She was very clrear, helpful and Kind. I would be very happy to travel with her again. I found the Rembrandthuis very disappointing; the setting has been destroyed. The hotel was faultless and Delft was an excellent base.
Review by Ray who travelled 11-July-2018
I loved the tour. It had just the right amount of free time at the different cities with useful information being given en route and no being rushed around sites by a guide. Gill Thompson was a superb tour manager, always helpful and with a great depth of knowledge about the places we visited -both about the place and also how to navigate it. Delft was a glorious base for the week.
Review by who travelled 11-July-2018
very well done ! the scores for excellent in all areas say it all , except one , that being the tour manager. gill, deserves a score above that given, she was the consummate expert without continuous chatter, and gave just the right amount of info when needed. just a couple of slight negatives for us during the very hot weather, firstly maria our walking guide in delft gave far to much info and had her group standing still for far to long, we decided to abandon the group and do our own thing, the other thing for two old ,uns (mid seventies) we found the walking in the galleries to much for us, but the trip was excellent.

We would like to commend very highly our guide Gill. She was extremely knowledgeable but knew how to deploy knowledge without giving indigestion. She also knew when to guide and when to leave people to do their own thing. She also did the management side of guiding very efficiently. Perhaps in these days of smartphones it would be as well for the guide to have a list of mobile numbers so that if someone goes walkabouts there is a way of making contact. (Not that anyone did for more than a few minutes.)
Review by George who travelled 09-May-2018
Very good itinerary, well located hotel and excellent, highly knowledgable tour guide.
Review by Allen who travelled 09-May-2018
Glad to have stayed in Delft which was delightful, very convenient hotel. Good Centre for visiting other towns. Rijksmuseum was a disappointment after all the years of renovation. Our tour leader was excellent and made the holiday enjoyable and easy with highlighted maps and clear information.
Review by Fisher who travelled 09-May-2018
Extremely good tour guide who told us a lot in the coach, gave us maps and then left us to explore on our own, always there with advice if needed. Very comfortable and friednly hotel. Packed a lot in but came home refreshed.
Review by Shakeshaft who travelled 09-May-2018
A lovely trip.Tour guide enhanced our enjoyment with in depth knowledge and information.Timings were good and having time to explore our own preferences from the range offered was admirable.
Review by Williams who travelled 09-May-2018
The tour guide, Gill, was excellent. She had a vast knowledge of the Netherlands, not only art but a lot of general information as well. She kept us entertained with many anecdotes about the Netherlands. Nothing was to much trouble for her.
Review by Marks who travelled 09-May-2018
Very enjoyable tour with Gill, our tour manager, an excellent and knowledgeable guide. Our only negative comment would be that the female Delft Official Guide (?Marie) was disappointing and at times gave incorrect information. Otherwise all was fine, and we learned a lot and saw some wonderful art.
Review by Newell who travelled 09-May-2018
A very enjoyable trip, ably led by the tour guide Gill, and coach driver, Peter. Hotel Hampshire Delft Centre was welcoming, comfortable and friendly, and within easy reach of Delft Town Centre. Whilst it was interesting to see Gouda and Leiden, it would have been good to have had the opportunity to have a second visit to either The Haag, or to Amsterdam instead. Plenty of good places to eat, again at Gill's recommendation, and everyone we met was helpful and friendly. The new Brasserie at the Mauritshuis, and at the Rijksmuseum were especially good! With the new direct rail service to Amsterdam or Rotterdam due in 2019, this trip should be even more worthwhile. An excellent taster introduction to the area.

Review by who travelled 09-May-2018
The hotel had a management gap on the evening of 18 August, which contributed to the poor food and service in the hotel restaurant that evening after 8pm. With this exception, we found all the staff exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Terry, in my experience, is unrivalled as a guide for such art/history tours.

42 participants a lot for Jill but she was excellent. I should have liked the final info. earlier---I had to change my arrangements for getting to St. Pancras. My suitcase was collected very late (7:45 pm not between 11 and 4) & Baggageman not VERY sympathetic. 'Stuff happens' but some communication would have been good (DHL). Wonderful art and the Dutch people very friendly and helpful. Eurostar very cramped and a long way to walk.

Review by Mr Anthony Way who travelled 10-May-2017
This was our first trip with Travel Editions and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We particularly appreciated the freedom to choose how to spend our time once we had arrived at our daily destination. The sequence of visits was well organised, and the earlier start for the visit to the Rijksmuseum meant we arrived soon after opening, and had good access to all the paintings. The Mauritshuis was another highlight. Our tour manager, Gill, was excellent, providing invaluable information and literature (especially very good town maps), contextual history of the places we were visiting, and suggestions for eating out in Delft. I thoroughly recommend the holiday.
Review by Luna who travelled 10-May-2017
Thought hotel was in excellent position and very clever of you to find it. We were easily able to walk in and out of Delft to find a restaurant etc and much more restful to stay in Delft. Day trips very well organised. Guide was excellent and so nice as well! What a lovely country, so restful and I liked the Dutch. The art and history and the wonderful paintings were quite magnificent. Hotel restaurant service could have been better. Not enough staff. Room was spacious and very clean and just what I had asked for. They coped well with our large group. Karen, our guide, was really excellent. She worked terribly hard all the time, giving us non stop information and looking after us. She kept very calm and was so knowledgeable about Holland and the wonderful art and buildings. She was very nice to the hotel staff and to the driver and to our guides. I really enjoyed meeting her. I loved Holland and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Thank you so very much Susan Simpson
Review by Mrs Susan Simpson who travelled 12-October-2016
Karen was brilliant at looking after us all and anticipating our needs. Maps she provided were really useful. Disappointed that the hotel breakfast did not have all items available at start and some days not at all. No prosecco on our anniversary :(
Review by Mrs Margaret Cooper who travelled 12-October-2016
Review by Ms Diane Mcilroy who travelled 12-October-2016
Over all we enjoyed the holiday. The one exception was that the visits to the two major centres and galleries were timed or changed to Saturday (Amsterdam) and Sunday (The Hague). These were times when the galleries which had the most interest to us were busy with weekend crowds. The Rijmuseum in particular was not a pleasant viewing experience . We understood the logistical reasons for these timings but it was a disappointment. Otherwise a good tour and an excellent tour manager (Karen).
Review by Mr Keith Savage who travelled 12-October-2016
Faith in your tour leaders restored: Karen excellent in all respects. Enough free time to explore Delft, Gouda and Leiden on foot at ones own pace, coupled with the right amount of culture.

Review by Mr Dugald Campbell who travelled 12-October-2016

Review by Dr Grenville Watson who travelled 14-September-2016
Hotel accommodation was good but our sleep was disturbed in the early hours of one morning by a group of people who gathered outside the main entrance just below our room (external smokers table?) This should not happen
Review by Dr Grenville Watson who travelled 14-September-2016
Gill our guide was excellent. Our hotel the Hampshire Delft Centre was good but training of waiting staff in the restaurant needs to be improved. Excellent food was let down by inattentive service. We had difficulty in getting menus (15 minutes) and one group had to wait almost an hour between courses.
Review by Mrs Lynn Turner who travelled 28-September-2016
Really enjoyed the trip and the art galleries We thought Leiden was disappointing but all other trips were excellent Karen our tour manager was excellent, unflappable and very informative
Review by Mr Brian Stevens who travelled 14-September-2016
We enjoyed this tour, especially Gouda and Leyden, but we thought we were on too much of a conveyor belt, and the tour manager seemed to think she had to talk the whole time on the coach, reading from notes and with no real understanding of the focus of the tour.
Review by Mrs Cary who travelled 14-September-2016
A little disappointed with what Leiden had to offer but loved being based in Delft and visits to Gouda ,The Hague and Amsterdam. Tour guide very pleasant and helpful.

Review by Mrs Angela Taylor who travelled 10-August-2016
Karen was a calm, efficient and friendly tour leader and I was able to enjoy the riches of the museums. We could have almost had another day in Amsterdam to take in the Stedlijk Museum and the Van Gogh museum as well. This was just as good as the last one and I look forward to No 3!
Review by Mr Philip Smith who travelled 10-August-2016

Review by Mr Peter Robinson who travelled 06-July-2016
Overall a very enjoyable trip. We much enjoyed our stay in Delft, a delightful town, and our visits to The Hague and Amsterdam. We felt that the visits to Gouda and Leiden amounted to a long day, with perhaps insufficient interest to justify the effort. It might have been better to have a half-day trip to Leiden, omitting Gouda. Our tour manager, Gill, was excellent throughout, and in particular coped very well with the difficulties which we caused by missing the Eurostar from London at the outset. She could not have been more helpful.
Review by Dr Adrienne Taylor who travelled 06-July-2016
Delph was a magnificent location and base for this break. I will certainly be anticipating going there again. Good balance of free time v booked time and enjoyed Amsterdam and The Hague with Vermeer and Rembrandt themes. Well done Gill our guide as well.
Review by Mr Richard Gilbert who travelled 06-July-2016
Steve, the Tour Manager was excellent and could not be faulted. He was always on hand, gave clear instructions but was never over familiar or intrusive. A very enjoyable holiday.
Review by Mr Philip Wells who travelled 25-May-2016
Congratulations to Steve who, faced with a lightning strike by Belgian Railways, managed to get us all to Brussels, via three different trains, in time to catch the scheduled Eurostar train to London
Review by Mrs Susan Phillips who travelled 25-May-2016
The tour had an excellent balance between group activities and free time. All the cities were a pleasure to walk around, with Delft the pick and the Leyden Panorama the most memorable event. The hotel was comfortable and friendly, and Steve an excellent manager throughout. He solved admirably our rail problems on the return journey.
Review by Mr Anthony Edwards who travelled 25-May-2016
Our return journey could have been hampered by Belgian/French striking rail workers, but the guide, Steve, calmly took us by different routes to Brussels where we caught our Eurostar train. This sort of holiday allows a lot of personal freedom to do what you want but removes the hassle of thinking of how to get to various towns and cities - the bus drops you off at the centre.
Review by Mrs Joan Watson who travelled 25-May-2016
Our tour guide Steve Hartnell was most helpful especially when the Belgian railway workers were on strike on 30 May and he managed to get 22 elderly people from one train onto another within 4 minutes so we did not miss our Eurostar connection. He always kept us fully informed in a relaxed manner. Hotel was lovely and peaceful with good breakfasts and service. Delft good centre to stay in. Loved Gouda and Leiden too. A relaxing five days holiday
Review by Mrs Lesley Aitken who travelled 25-May-2016
A very well organized tour with the right mix of organized tours and free time .Our guide/leader couldn't have done a better job.
Review by Mrs Patricia Stewart who travelled 11-May-2016
The adverse travel comments are for events outside your control - a broken Eurostar and a cancelled Belgian train. Both caused little anxiety because our guide, Karen, was on top of everything and made us feel so too! No praise would be too high for her - she gave us a wonderful time.
Review by Mr Michael Catty who travelled 11-May-2016
Good accommodation but room house keeping patchy.
Review by Mr James Scott who travelled 11-May-2016
First time we have used travel editions and we shall use them again. Enjoyed the free time and freedom at the venues.
Review by Mrs Helen Stretton who travelled 11-May-2016
It was up to the standard I have come to expect from Travel Editions. The hotel was really lovely and well located, the itinerary was interesting and the company was excellent. The minor hiccups on Eurostar and local trains were outside Travel Editions' control but they were felt with seamlessly and professionally by Karen and by Peter the driver. Altogether a lovely interesting and pleasant break. Here's to the next one.
Review by Mrs Eunice Kenny who travelled 11-May-2016
Karen coped admirably with the Eurostar delay going, the confusion at The Hague on the way back, and 2 participants being robbed in Brussels. Otherwise, it was a very good trip!
Review by Ms Lois Hamlyn who travelled 11-May-2016
Pity the trains let us down but this was not anything the tour could have done to avoid, and Karen coped magnificently.
Review by Mrs Marian Cooke who travelled 11-May-2016
There was a delay on outward Eurostar journey - technical fault - and cancellation of train from The Hague - could this not be checked by head office? However Karen, the tour manager remained calm and good-humoured throughout it all and our Dutch driver got us all to Rotterdam for another train to Brussels, to catch our booked Eurostar leg. So all was well and not stressful, except for them. We've also just received compensation from Eurostar which will go towards another break. Wouldn't hesitate to use Travel Editions again. A very good, well-organised and stimulating holiday.
Review by Mrs Sheila Stephens who travelled 11-May-2016
Karen our tour guide was very good looking after us well with clear and precise instructions of where to be and when.
Review by Mr David Vail who travelled 14-October-2015
We did not realise how much we would be left on our own, though it was not a problem, but if I had been alone it would have been miserable. With 41 on the trip this was inevitable. The coach was fine and we found some excellent restaurants further afield with the help of trip adviser. Our guide directed us to some as well. It was an enjoyable week.
Review by Mrs Anne-Marie Travis who travelled 14-October-2015

it would have been better not to go to Amsterdam on the day of the city marathon which meant roads were closed and travel delayed. Otherwise, excellent tour and first class tour leader in Karen.
Review by Mrs Margaret Bardell who travelled 14-October-2015
The single suplement is to costly. Surely you would get more bookings from singles if you could negotiate lower prices in out of season half empty hotels. The hotel restaurant was very slow. It would also be good for singles if at least the first evening dinner was included.
Review by Mrs Claudine Lemaitre-Milward who travelled 14-October-2015
Kate our tour manager really gave us every help we could ask for, including best places to eat and other points of interest. She went out of her way to make sure everything was well organised and allowances made for those needing assistance.
Review by Mr Robert Douglas who travelled 14-October-2015
Karen Blackwell was an excellent guide. Informative but not pushy and not bossy. The hotel restaurant is not to be recommended but the restaurant choice in Delft is varied and we enjoyed excellent meals.

A really lovely holiday. Karen is an excellent guide. The hotel was very helpful when my partner felt ill and stayed in the hotel one day. They made him a sandwich specially even though they were not doing lunch. A bit more time in Delft would have been welcome but appreciate that this may be difficult to do. I am sure most people would be willing to go for six nights to do this.
Review by Mrs Paula Palk who travelled 06-October-2015
Hard to improve! Balanced pace.
Review by Mr Douglas Bateman who travelled 06-October-2015
We very much enjoyed our recent holiday in the Netherlands especially our full day in Delft. Although we enjoyed seeing the stained glass in Gouda and the lovely town, we thought that having to share the day with a trip to Leiden wasn't doing justice to either place and our visit to the Lakenhal museum was one of the the highlights of our holiday. A whole day visit to each place would be good as they offer so many different things. We were very impressed with the Mauritshaus, the Mesdag panorama and the Rijkmuseum although Amsterdam was very busy perhaps because we were there on a Saturday. Maybe the weekend isn't a good time to be there? We thought the hotel location was wonderful being only a short walk to lots of good restaurants and a short drive to all the places of interest. Is there any way of adding a visit to Harleem as part of this tour so that you had focused on the three great painters, Vermeer ( Delft and the Hague) Rembrandt ( Amsterdam and Leiden) and Hals- Hals was not really covered in this tour
Review by Miss Diane Finlayson who travelled 06-October-2015
I should have liked a passenger list. Just names and where from. Also an introductory evening with a drink at the hotel so we could meet the others at the beginning of the tour as we did not have a single sit-down meal together.

Gill is an excellent tour manager. Just possibly the best we have encountered. Very knowledgable and enthusiastic. Hotel very good. Well chosen tours. The smaller group does work a lot better. The low point was Pieter, the guide in Delft, who seemed not to 'read' the group, belabouring ponts with which we were all very familiar.

Gill Thompson, the Tour Manager is excellent. Well organised, knowledgeable, helpful. Gives just the right amount of useful information, plans the day well, and then - and this is most important to me - leaves you in peace! There is no herding and being told what to look at for how long etc so all the tedious bits of travelling are taken care of and all the best bits are free to enjoy as one wishes.

An excellent tour, Gill the tour manager was very thorough and looked after us very well. Itinerary was also excellent. Hotel was well situated in Delft but staff not always efficient. Room cleaning was erratic, bins not always emptied etc and at breakfast supplies often ran out and were not replaced. This didn't detract from the holiday and we were very impressed with the organisation.

Many thanks as I had a really enjoyable holiday and have just a couple of comments/feedback. I felt it might have been useful to have had a bit more of an idea of what was happening and when more in advance just so that I could have planned the day/s better but just a minor point. I think the main problem was the housekeeping/room cleaning at the hotel which should have been better. I know several people on the holiday had problems with this including Steve, our tour manager. Otherwise, the hotel was ideal.

Enjoyed holiday very much. Good variety of visits, not too much time on coach. Early mornings!!! Hotel not quite as good as last year in small details such as changing towels, accessing iron(first one sent broken & in dangerous condition -receptionist assured us she had thrown it out), otherwise service good. Menu on Sunday night very limited.

Contacting the office was always direct and simple no menus to negotiate. Eurostar is very tired. The hotel was superb, staff friendly and welcoming. Rooms clean not cramped. Bathroom spacious with excellent walk-in shower. Loved fact that though a group of 39 we were not herded and had a lot of freedom within the days to do our own thing and go at our own pace. Excellent tour with very good leader - Karen - and coach driver - Harry. A lot crammed into 5 days. Not enough time allowed in Amsterdam, where 2+ days necessary to do justice. Hotel rooms at Hampshire functional, not enough drawer space. Bathroom layout poorly planned but good location with Delft on doorstep. There were 49 people on our tour. This is too many and became unwieldy. Should be restricted to 30 or else 2 guides. Is there a quicker route eg Brussels to Delft station then coach?

Travel Editions feedback:
Thank you for your constructive comments and we were pleased you enjoyed the tour. We do try to make it as clear as possible on our brochure the expected number of passengers on each tour and our popular ones do sell out. For 2015 we are introducing a few of our popular tours at a maximum of 35 passengers but this will put up the price for the same tour by approx £50 per person.
Tour leader Stephen took good care of this large group and gave excellent introductions to each day & site. Coach driver also friendly & competent. Delft proved an good base - not too large a town and with plenty of good restaurants within easy walk.

Everything excellent except for the dire boat-trip in Amsterdam. A decent, reasonably articulate, human guide here would have been appreciated--the puerile chit-chat coming over the headphones infuriated, also the deafening roar of our boat- driver's radio system--we asked him to turn it off, or at least down, but without effect. Perhaps if Steve had accompanied us on the water, it might have been more satisfactory. We were unlucky on the return train journey to run into what appeared to be the entire High School population of Rotterdam, travelling to London for half-term, and very excited they were. This was just bad luck Apart from this, the whole trip was excellent, and the hotel very comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful.

We were disappointed with the size of the group. 47 people for one manager we felt was too many, some times leading to delay when waiting for the group to gather. You will notice 2 "goods". The problem with the train at Roosedaal is the reason not the excellent Eurostar journeys. Sightseeing we mark just "good" although they were excellent, because the Rijks Museum on a Sunday is too crowded. Could the visit be on another day? We liked the hotel but think the restaurant staff can be complacent at times. There was a problem one evening with another couple and the waiter concerned had been lackadaisical with us. Also running out of breakfast bacon was bad. Maybe the restaurant management is taking too casual an approach. We thought Terry Regan was excellent. He was always prepared and worked very hard on our behalf. The size of the group was too big and at Roosedaal there could have been a serious problem with many elderly, some physically impaired, passengers having to carry their luggage from one area to another. We thought Harry our driver was also excellent, so careful and helpful.

Review by Mr Alfred Greenwood who travelled 09-July-2014
The tour manager was excellent in that she managed to overcome the power cut in the Hague and enabled us to catch our booked Eurostar at Lille. As far as the Hotel went it was in many ways ideal. However it would be helpful to know what facilities are offered (star rating is pretty meaningless) e.g. we carried a electric kettle unnecessarily, and we did not have a fridge in our room which, in the summer, is desirable. The restaurant menu was limited whilst the service was good the cooking left something to be desired. The out of hours snacks provided nothing substantial and there was no real food at weekends (I think the hotel could have frozen some of their cooked food for microwave heating at weekends.) The trip all in all was very good value.

Her general supervision of the Tour was highly professional but she came into her own when a rail emergency threatened our homeward jorney. With an aura of great calm and competence, she sorted out an alternative route to catch Eurostar and we were able to catch our scheduled train with 20 minutes to spare (and no feeling of panic or stress)! We would be encouraged to book a holiday if we knew that she would be leading it. This holiday left us wishing we had had more time everywhere, but we would have particularly liked more time in Delft. The return train connection was poor - had Eurostar not cancelled our train, it is possible we would have missed it.
