Agatha Christie Tour On The English Riviera

All tours on this holiday have now departed. Future departure dates will be confirmed in due course.

  • Dinner and Murder Mystery evening with the excellent Moonstone Theatre Company at the Grand Hotel

  • Lunch at the iconic Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel

  • Visit to Greenway, Agatha Christie’s beloved country home and garden

  • Torquay and its Christie connections

This wonderful tour immerses itself in the life and times of the most famous mystery writer in literary history, the incomparable Agatha Christie. The tour is based at the Grand Hotel in Torquay, where Agatha Christie stayed on her wedding night as well as other haunts of our heroine and many other notables of her day. The highlight of the tour is a visit to Burgh Island for the day with lunch included.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive independently at The Grand Hotel, Torquay from 15.00.
This evening there will be a welcome reception, private dinner with wine and a talk, ‘Agatha Christie – Queen of Crime’ from Jane Tapley.

Day 2: Torquay, Greenway and Murder Mystery evening
A guided tour this morning of Torquay with Jane Tapley, who will show you some of the sights on the “Agatha Christie Mile” including our hotel, where Agatha spent her honeymoon night with Archie Christie on Christmas Eve 1914, Torre Abbey and Princess Gardens, the Princess Pier and ending at the Torquay Museum with the UK’s only dedicated Agatha Christie gallery. Then it’s off to Greenway, her country holiday home she called “the loveliest place in the world”, which is full of memorabilia. This evening, there will be a Murder Mystery dinner “Murder on the Riviera,” hosted by Moonstone Theatre Company, in which ace sleuth Jane Rutherford, with your help, attempts to solve the mystery of the death of Sir Michael Crispin.

Day 3: Burgh Island Hotel
A lovely day in prospect as we head to the iconic Burgh Island Hotel, a former haunt of Agatha Christie, Noel Coward and other luminaries of the 1930s. Built in 1929 and restored to its 1930s Art Deco glamour, Burgh Island is reached by sea tractor at high tide or by landrover or on foot when the tide is out. Time will be allowed to explore the island which has lovely footpaths, the hotel itself and its delightful pub, the Pilchard Inn, for a pre-lunch drink. Lunch (roast beef) will be served in the hotel dining room with wine included. Return to the hotel in Torquay for approximately 17.00.

Please note:
Post tour extra nights are available at a supplement

NB: Exact order of excursions may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion.

A very enjoyable tour. Quite a relaxed itinerary, which suited us as it gave time for some independent exploration of Torquay. Tour Manager Jane and driver Richard were both excellent. The slightly faded grandeur of the hotel was easily forgiven due to its terrific location, lovely staff and good food.

I think a visit to the poison garden could have been included instead of a coach drive around Torquay in the morning before our allotted time at the Museum. It seemed a waste of nearly an hour. The murder mystery at Dinner was a lot of fun & the actors were excellent . Burgh Island was splendid. Just a shame the tide was out so missed a ride on the sea tractor. Our driver Barry was excellent.

Travel Editions feedback:

We are delighted that you enjoyed the tour, and it sounds as though the Murder Mystery evening and Burgh Island were the highlights. Thank you for your suggestion and we are including the Poison Garden on some of our 2025 dates due to the opening days of the Torquay museum.

Brilliant tour. Jane was an informative and entertaining guide. We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions and the Murder Mystery evening was great fun. Well paced and well planned. The hotel has seen better days but was comfortable and was part of the story. It was also well positioned for Torquay itself. Would certainly recommend this tour to any Agatha Christie fans.

Super time on the Agatha Christie trip. Jane was an excellent tour manager, the programme was well thought out. and a lovely group of people to share the experiences. The evening activities (talk and Murder Mystery) were high quality and enjoyable and the day trips were very good. Highlights were Burgh Island and the weather. The hotel could have been better but was in a wonderful position for those of us travelling by train, the staff were helpful and the view from the terrace was wonderful. All in all a very pleasant few days full of interest and fun.

It was a lovely tour partly because the group was small enough to get to know everybody, but also because the tour was well thought through. The highlight for me was the visit to Burgh Island and the lunch. We were made to feel very welcome by the hotel staff. The visit to Greenway was alright, but this was because of the National Trust, which still needs to organise its properties better, to help create a proper atmosphere. Not your problem, but I believe echoes an underlying difficulty NT has in the presentation of its properties.

I realised that any information from you had gone into junk mail , but expected an updated itinerary at the hotel or in my room. So I didn’t realise the schedule had been changed . Meaning we had a 2 & a 3 course meal one day , and nothing the last day. The hotel was good & the food excellent. Also Jane was extremely efficient & made the tour with her knowledge.

For us the "relaxing" start times for the tours were a bit too relaxing. We would have preferred longer at both Burgh Island and Greenway. After looking around the house at Greenway there was little time to see the garden, although as it rained that was not a great loss. Similarly at Burgh Island , for us the high spot of the trip it would have been good to have more time to explore the island. It was interesting to stay at The Grand with its Agatha Christie connections, but now a somewhat faded "grandeur" - clearly investment and upkeep a problem. The Murder Mystery entertainment was excellent and very well performed. It would have been nice to see where Ashfield, Agatha's birthplace, was, even though it is no longer there. But overall we much enjoyed the break and Jane was an excellent tour leader.

All elements were enjoyable and well organised. Particularly enjoyed the visit to Agatha Christie's House. We managed to get to Burgh Island, despite the weather! A memorable visit to the hotel there. Also pleased with the 'Murder Mystery', the 3 actors were very good. It might be useful to let National Trust members know that it would help to take membership cards with them to speed up entry to NT properties (Ours remains in the car usually). Might be relevant for all of your tours.

Jane Tapley was an excellent guide and presenter. At the Grand Hotel the public areas and food were good but our room was shabby - e.g. bathroom floor was pitted with holes. We were surprised when checking in to be discouraged from having the room serviced. On making the bed next morning my wife's pillow fell out of its cover and was filthy with old yellow sweat stains. On her way to show it to Reception she met a chambermaid who arranged for it to be changed. After that my wife was so unhappy that she had to take all the bedding apart to check it. Luckily all was acceptable and clean.

As it was my 3rd time of trying to book a holiday, I was delighted to get to this one! The accommodation wasn't deluxe but it was clean and comfortable. The food was good and the Murder Mystery Dinner amazing. The actors were really good and very persuasive, whichever way you tried to decide whodunnit!! Jane Tapley was amazing. How she coped when we nearly couldn't get across to Burgh Island I don't know, but she was always calm and reassuring. I really enjoyed the tour and for me it was just the right balance. Thank you.

Very interesting and enjoyable trip which would have been even better had we had some decent weather. Unfortunately the pouring rain and 50 mph gusts of wind certainly made our walk across the sands to Burgh Island memorable, but we were pleased it wasn't cancelled and really enjoyed our lovely lunch. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Murder Mystery Evening put on by an excellent group. Our only criticism is in connection with the first day which we thought could have packed more in as we had a late start and an early finish. Jane was an excellent tour leader though.

My low mark for travel was because my train journey was awful in both directions. The outgoing train from Leeds to Newton on 18th Sept was overcrowded and all seat reservations cancelled. The train on return on 22nd Sept was even more overcrowded. On both journeys, people were sitting on the floor in first class and no trolley service was provided, because they couldn’t get the trolley down the aisle. Luckily I took something on board to eat and drink. I am diabetic and would have struggled with these 6 hour journeys. Next time, I will travel via London which is cheaper and doesn’t take much longer. I am going to complain to cross country because, even with a railcard, my ticket cost £498 and this wasn’t good enough. Not Travel Editions fault in any way.

In view of the weather, it might have been better to have abandoned the tour to Burgh Island as we had hardly any time there and lunch was very delayed while we waited for those who could not walk across so there was no time to enjoy the hotel facilities. The vegetarian lunch was very poor - but the dessert was amazing!

Burgh island was superb and the food was wonderful. The hotel rooms were fine although they were lazy with the service. The room was not serviced during our stay and I specifically asked for a sheet as the room was so hot at night. The sheet never arrived and I would have fitted it myself. We had to wait a long time to be served for the first nights' dinner which was unusual honey chicken. This wasn't the best combination and there was an hours delay between starter and main as although we had a few waiters for the starter it was reduced to one waitress for the main and subsequent courses

The tour manager and coach driver were amazing. The excursions and the murder mystery were excellent The hotel was the worst I’ve ever stayed in. The room was hotter than an oven with a tiny fan and a window that opened 2 inches. It was also tired and in need of updating. The bar staff were rude and dismissive, leaving us to wait over 15 minutes to order while they cleared tables and chatted, the food very poor quality and the serving staff incompetent. We had to wait over an hour between courses. Based on this hotel I would be extremely nervous using your organisation again without thorough research

Really enjoyed the trip. We would have liked longer at Greenway house and grounds, as we did not have time to see all the grounds and gardens. (We are not slow walkers.) Also we very much enjoyed the Murder mystery meal at the hotel, but there were not enough copies of the background information setting the scene, so only one or two people had time to read some of it, others that arrived also 5 or 10 minutes early had no time to read it, before the actors commenced. A copy each would have helped.

I just cannot commend Travel Editions and the wonderful Jane Tapley enough for the delightful Agatha Christie on the English Riveria tour my mother and I joined. It was superb from start to finish. We had a lovely, comfortable, dual aspect twin room at the Grand Hotel, food and wine were good and plentiful, and the company was very pleasant. Jane Tapley regaled us with a brilliant mix of anecdotes and information; never dull, always amusing and entertaining and told in her unique style that always made us smile. She was a great organiser and so accommodating of everyone. Richard the coach driver is worth his weight too - what a considerate, capable driver with a great humour. I would have let him drive me round all week! The locations we visited were food for the soul and I fully indulged and immersed myself in Agatha, geek that I am - though as I discovered, you don't actually need to know a thing about her to get a lot of joy from the multi-faceted trip. From the museum to Greenway, from murder mystery to Burgh Island, everything was simply brilliant. Even the sea tractor played a starrting role. The murder mystery players entertained beautifully. The whole trip felt very personal and tailored. Jane was right when she said you become like a little family with people you've never met before and never will again. It was sad to part! I enjoyed myself immensely, and I thought the whole tour was executed perfectly throughout - so much so, I am intending to book onto the Agatha in Egypt tour when the next set of dates are released. Literally, my dream come true and I cannot wait.

We have just returned from a fabulous tour, our first, and certainly not our last with Travel Editions. Everything was arranged and went smoothly on all excursions. Our tour manager, Jane Tapley was fun, interesting and knowledgeable. We will definitely book another tour with Jane. The highlights were the murder mystery dinner and Burgh Island. Wonderful memories to keep. If there was anything to say as suggestions it would be to have alternative menus on the two special dinners at The Grand rather than chicken both days and brownies both days. In addition, their 'gren policy' meant it was all down to the customer to request anything needed - not sure that works well.

The tour leader was a little patronising and appeared slightly bored with the tour. The Not So Grand Hotel presumably has staffing problems, as rooms were not serviced during the day and service in the bar and restaurant were sometimes erratic. The Torquay Museum was a disappointment, but Burgh Island and Greenways most definitely were not.

An Autumn delight, with a walk across the sands in sunshine to Burgh Island and the "posh" lunch. We viewed the famous sea tractor parked up, which is huge. I still want to ride on it when the tide is in of course, -- well perhaps next year.

From first arrival at The Grand Hotel in Torquay, the tour was delightful. The hotel itself was grand in more than name and I'm only sorry that we didn't find time to use the pool. Everything ran to time, food was good and the staff were attentive to special dietary needs. Our tour guide, Jane, was very knowledgeable and approachable. We will look for another tour with you in 2023.

A most enjoyable tour very well led by Jane Tapley. The only less than excellent aspect of the tour was the condition of the hotel. Whilst the public areas of the hotel were very good and the staff efficient the tiles of the steps of the entrance were badly cracked up in need of replacement and our room needed some attention. The hotel chain has also 'gone green ' meaning that rooms are not serviced daily and anything one may require has to be specifically asked for. Not what one wants when on a holiday I suggest.

Jane was excellent, clear speaking and considerate for all. Accommodation for us personally when requesting walk in shower was not the best! We did not use it, except first trial.it was very small, no grab handles and one had to stand in front of the door to receive the spray. The telephone did not work, even after reporting that it was u/s. Throughly enjoyed our sunny day to Burgh island.

Jane was a simply wonderful guide She couldn't have been better organised or done more for the group. We had a great time. I would just comment on the way the entrance fee for Greenway (NT) was paid. We are NT life members and thus go free to any property. The entrance fee was included in your price so we actually overpaid you by £26. I feel it would be fairer to exclude any NT fees & for indiivduals to pay (or show their membership card) on arrival at any property. Thanks to consider this.

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and was also entertaining and dynamic. Our bus driver was supurb! he managed to navigate that bus through areas that I'd be afraid to take a car! Truly an expert driver. the muder mystery part was truly perfect, and the meals were exceptional all round. the "Grand Hotel" was our only disappointment in that we must have been given the ONLY room with literally no view at all, but the hotel staff managed to get us a better room the next night. so they were attentive and gracious. The cocktails at "the Grand Hotel" were brilliant though. I will certainly consider booking one of their other tours or even, perhaps this one again!

The only issue we had was the state of the room we were first given at the Grand. The safe was broken, TV didn't work and the room was in a very poor state of repair with wallpaper coming off the walls. We spoke to reception and were given a renovated room. Whilst we were happy with the second room, I am disappointed that we had to make the complaint in the first place.

Flight/Train/Ferry N/A I primarily dealt with Laura Munjic, I think, from initial phone call enquiry to booking and all other communications and she was lovely on the phone, really helpful and efficient; she could also speak from experience about the trip which was great - it's great when someone from the company has been on one of its own trips. On booking I thought that the tour was a bit pricey - particularly because I incurred a single supplement - but when I subtracted the cost of the hotel I could see that the tour was great value for money. Jane was great as our tour guide, making everyone feel welcome along with Tony the driver who was excellent. Greenway was amazing and something that I have now ticked off my bucket list but Burgh Island is the stand out moment on this tour. To have access to the hotel and dine there - not something the public can usually do - was a huge treat and really made the trip. Several people on the tour spoke very highly of many of your other excursions too which speaks volumes as to the service you provide. I will recommend your excursions to friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful trip.

1) The hotel was short of staff and so the service was poor. We had to wait until 4:45pm for our room to be ready. Getting a drink in the very pleasant bar was difficult. 2) The meal at Burgh island hotel was a fixed menu. We weren't told this when booking and so - as non-beef-eaters- we were not given the opportunity to order the vegetarian option 3) Finishing the tour at 5:00pm and then having to go home is inconvenient. This has put us off booking another tour. An option for an extra night's stay should be available

A most enjoyable few days. Jane was extremely pleasant and helpful. The only general comment I would make is that on tours with other companies I have been on, tips are included. I do take your point about not increasing the costs but it wouldn't be a big increase. I asked one or two others who had been on TE tours and they didn't know what to do either. I felt rather embarrassed, not wishing to give too much or too little, so I didn't do anything. Sorry

Excellent except my room! Climb into bath shower (my age making this difficult) with no hand grips for safety so no shower for the first two days. Then suction grips were put in the bath but not fixed. Apparently the sloping w@ll made this impossible. Eventually after that I was given the keys to a room on the first floor (I was fourth floor)) with a lovely walk in shower.

We had a most enjoyable time with our first break with Travel Editions and overall, we thought it was very well organised with special thanks to Jane Tapley who we thought was excellent and managed the whole event with great professionalism. Our only criticism was that we thought the hotel was a "little tired" and for the Mystery Murder Evening, only one member of staff was serving the whole group and errors in serving the right choice were experienced!! However, the actors presenting the entertainment were outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed participating in solving the murder - we successfully guessed the culprit! Our trip to Burgh Island was so enjoyable but sadly, the weather was not good but this did not dampen our spirits!! The meal was excellent. We had this trip postponed from last year due to Covid. It was well worth the wait! Both Jane and Jill were excellent experienced and knowledgeable tour guides making us feel very welcome. We enjoyed Jane's talk on The Queen of Crime on the first evening and visits to Torquay and the museum the following day - a perfect start for Agatha Christie enthusiasts! Our Steam Train from Paignton to Dartmouth was scenic and exciting as was the ferry trip across the River Dart. The Murder/Mystery dinner evening was great fun with an excellent cast in costume and well rehearsed scripts! The highlight of the tour was our trip to Burgh Island crossing on the Sea Tractor. On arrival we sat out on the patio sipping a cocktail and relaxed in the sunshine. We moved into the iconic ballroom for lunch with tables set and decorated with art deco table wear. The hotel staff were as polished as the wine glasses! A tasty lunch of Roast Beef and trimmings was served washed down with a delicious glass of wine or two followed by a lovely chocolate brownie dessert. Compliments too to the coach driver who navigated these narrow and twisty Cornish roads to and from our destination! We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel appreciating the location, the views and the pools! The evening dinners in the Cavendish suite were excellent but the staff struggled to maintain the same standard of service at the bar and breakfast. Overall this was a highly organised tour which we would strongly recommend.

We really enjoyed this tour. The Murder Mystery evening was great fun and the visit to Burgh Island with the sea tractor transfer was the highlight of the trip for me. We were blessed with excellent weather. Our room was slightly shabby and we had to ask for proper cups/mugs for making tea as all that was provided were two cardboard cups, entirely unsuitable and indeed dangerous, for making any hot beverage. The TV remote control was very mucky although the room was reasonably clean otherwise. The shower temperature fluctuated continually which could be dangerous if it became very hot. As the weather was warm, we set it on a low temperature so even when it suddenly became hot, it wasn't scalding. We didn't mind the lack of chambermaid service in view of the Covid circumstances. The dinner on Monday night was excellent but the Tuesday dinner was not very appetising. The breakfasts were average but adequate. The staff were friendly. The parking arrangements were confusing. We were directed to the station car park but found that was full which meant going back to the hotel to get directions to the rugby club as well as paying an additional deposit.

We would just like to tell you how much we enjoyed our Agatha Christie tour which started on 17th May 2021. My daughter and I were very happy with the hotel, had very comfortable beds, we were on a table for our meals with four of the nicest people imaginable. The food was good and the company we had made it even better. We did not have great weather, but it did not make any difference to our enjoyment. The tour Guides Judith and Gill were absolutely brilliant – patient, informative, relaxed and so helpful when we had a problem. The staff at The Grand Hotel were really good and all in all it was just what we needed. The trip to Burgh Island was just brilliant and the food was really good, as were the staff. The whole experience made us feel as if life was back to normal despite some restrictions. Thank you very much. Please feel free to put all, or any, of the above on your Website. The 'tour' itself was very good and Jane and Gill were excellent. The staff at the Grand Hotel were fantastic, but the hotel itself was a disappointment. The images on their website looked very nice, but in reality it was very different. They had made an effort to make the ground floor entrance and public rooms look presentable, but my bedroom was very tired looking, with peeling wallpaper, ripped nets and shabby furniture. Having said that my bed was very comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water. I couldn't use the shower as only hot water came out, but the bath was good. I thought the standard of the food was poor, this was a disappointment. Also the swimming pool area badly needed repainting, it looked very run down and neglected . The floors were unsafe as they were very slippery and an absolute health and safety hazard. Some grip mats had been put down, but not enough. Given that Agatha Christie only stayed there for her 12 hour honeymoon the link with the hotel is tenuous and I think you should really think about using another hotel. The trip to Burgh Island was the absolute highlight.

This was a well run trip, with the right balance of trips and entertainment. The base hotel, the Grand, was ideally suited near Torquay Station, and the standard of food was good. Jane made an excellent tour guide. While I loved Burgh Island, which was in many ways the highlight, as a non-meat eater I found the main course - just vegetables with a tiny addition of cauliflower cheese - uninteresting and uninspiring. Just the right size of group, a little less than 30. The murder mystery Saturday evening entertainment helped bring everybody together.

This was such a fun and fascinating tour. Jane, our guide was excellent and found us an alternative place to visit when the weather caused the closure of Greenway, which was totally out of her hands

Very enjoyable weekend. Shame the weather was so bad we couldn;t get to Greenway but not your fault. Jane Tapley was very good in organising for us to go to Torre Abbey instead which was most interesting with a good Agatha Christie exhibition. She was excellent in all respects. The visit to the Burgh Island Hotel was amazing. What an iconic hotel. Had wanted to go for years. The Sunday lunch was very good. Also thought the Murder Mystery evening was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My one complaint about the whole visit was that the coach was not adequate for 30 people. At one point we had to squeeze in the back seat which was extremely uncomfortable. Would not have wanted to travel far like that. Overall a most enjoyable weekend - the third one we have done with you.

We had an excellent weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the Murder Mystery evening. Obviously we were disappointed that the vintage coach was not available but the reasons were adequately explained by our tour host. The only complaint relates to the driver of the coach who was self opinionated, spoke over the tour guide, drove much too fast in country lanes, to the distress of a number of older passengers and contributed nothing to the weekend other than the sound of his own voice. Nevertheless the weekend offered excellent value for money, and an opportunity to learn something new. We will be booking with Travel Editions again in the near future.

The Hotel is being updated but our shower did not function properly. One normal shower one icy cold shower. Plumber provided but did not make much difference. We washed at basin.

Really enjoyable time all went as planned, food at each venue excellent. Only down side did not think the bedrooms in the Grand very grand, very cramped and husband could not use the shower as being tall and the tiles sloped he could not stand up. Also outlook not good, would have liked to see the sea.

The convenience of staying at a hotel very relevant to the tour content description of the trip was excellent, but the reality slightly different in that as a weekend was chosen there were several private events occurring at the same time putting an undue strain on the staff and facilities both a.m. and p.m. Additionally the room allocation for us personally was not of the best in the annexe section where as you moved from the main building to this part there was obviously no heating available. In the event and prior to our arrival a manual electric heater marked "Reception" had been placed in our room for use which was hardly of the best. Nonetheless this did not detract from our enjoyment of the outings and nature of the itinerary.

This was a most enjoyable tour with an excellent guide. I particularly enjoyed the visit to Greenway (in spite of the rain) and to Burgh Island in the sunshine. The Grand Hotel was comfortable though the vegetarian options in the restaurant were rather unimaginative.

An excellent tour, particularly the trip to Burgh Island and the included lunch. The only downside was the lack of choice for dinner at the "Grand'. Presumably somebody has been trying to cut costs. We've been on several tours with you and the dinners at "The Grand" were not remotely 'Grand"

Jane was excellent. Knowledgeable, informative and very entertaining. The Grand Hotel was a little disappointing not worthy of a 4star hotel. I stayed in a Travelodge for 2 extra nights and my room there was bigger, smelt nicer and didn't have a leak in the bathroom!! There was a problem with a couple of the guests at the murder mystery evening - lets hope they won't travel with you again

I have to say first of all that Jayne Tapley was a first class guide and speaker. She was professional throughout, despite having to deal with some people on the Tour who, in our opinion, seemed to think the Tour was for their benefit, and were causing unpleasantness for fellow travellers. We were particularly impressed by the way she handled those individuals on the evening of the Murder Mystery. The evening was spoilt for most of us by the actions they took, clearly trying to disrupt the Actors. The actors stood their ground, thankfully, and they (with Jaynes help) managed to pull it back at the end. All credit to them. I mention this because we got the impression that those individuals may raise a complaint about the way Jayne handled matters. I have to say that my wife and I fully support the action she took, and would be willing to explain further if help was needed to support Jayne. To the rest of the Tour. We found the information in Jaynes pre dinner presentation extremely interesting and well delivered. There were several facts we were unaware of. The visit to Greenways was very interesting and well delivered. The Burgh Island visit and lunch were excellent. We felt Poirot would walk into dining room at any moment because of the décor and atmosphere. The Grand Hotel was adequate in its accommodation. There were one or two minor points we raised with the hotel which were outwith anything to do with travel Editions. We did feel that the choice of dishes on the limited menu could have been better thought out. I have told the hotel so in their feedback form, and I believe Jayne was going to do so as weel. Overall another enjoyable trip with Travel Editions. We will return!

An excellent trip as ever, and good value for money. The meal at the hotel on Burgh Island was excellent, and something I had been looking forward to for a long time; it didn't disappoint! The staff at both the hotel in Torquay and at Burgh Island were friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel in Torquay was delightfully old-fashioned, albeit a little shabby, but that was part of its charm. The only downside was the choice of menu could have been better (mushrooms twice on the same menu seemed somewhat unimaginative (maybe they had a surplus of mushrooms to get rid of!). Tour manager was excellent as they always are.

A most enjoyable weekend in Devon! Jane our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful! The day trip to Burgh Island was very successful, but it was shame we did not have a guided tour of the hotel itself! The lunch was very good and they catered well for my veggie needs! The Murder Mystery eve was well done, but just went on too long and got rather repetitive! Some of the guests took it all a bit too seriously! Altogether a very enjoyable weekend in a comfortable hotel!

Amazing tour, brilliant trip. The team, especially guide Jane, were all superb. Only slight let down was doing the Agatha Christie mile and not seeing some areas I.e. ' in front of that building is a bust of Agatha Christie', not helpful when you are at the back of the building! Baz the driver went above and beyond, that coach was hard work! Was a shame we had less time than hoped on Burgh Island and the meal was not good but was excited to be there. I was quite ill with diarrhoea and vomiting the day after we returned, but had a thoroughly good time. Am aware we were the 'guinea pigs' as the first tour so am sure things can only get better!

We were pleased on the whole. A large number of people in the hotel resulted in some confusion at meal times but the good humour of the group was up to the task. If the weather had been very poor there would be problems of loose time in areas of limited shelter.

Very enjoyable tour with lunch at the Burgh Island hotel being a particular highlight. Tour Manager was excellent giving interesting insight into life of Agatha Christie. The heritage bus was good idea but perhaps not suitable for the steep hills of the Devon countryside. The bus driver did sterling service in getting us to our destinations. However, modern coach probably too wide for narrow lanes. I’m sure your staff on this inaugural tour and Tour Manager discussed this during their debriefing. The Murder Mystery was a brilliant idea thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Everyone is going to mention the difficulties with the vintage coach so I won't! I have a few very minor quibbles: 1) It would have been really nice to have had a bit more time to explore Torquay independently. Being able to check in at the hotel earlier on the Saturday would have allowed this and perhaps this could be arranged with the hotel for future groups. 2) At the Welcome reception, it would have been nice to have been given a name badge to wear (if only just for that evening) so that I could have got to know the names of my fellow crime fans a little easier 3) On the first morning we were given the use of the Cavendish Suite to use for breakfast. This unfortunately had the effect of completely isolating the group from staff who were on duty in the main dining room who were bringing tea and coffee. It also meant that those of us who are Not Good In The Morning couldn't really get away from the rest of the group without sitting at a separate table and thus appearing slightly anti-social. The hotel neglected to tell anyone that the Cavendish Room was not available on the Monday morning, meaning that at least three of the party barged in on a conference that was taking place in there that morning. 4) Nowhere in the Travel Editions paperwork was the proximity of the hotel to Torquay station pointed out. I waited 10 minutes at the station for a taxi, the driver of which was vastly amused when he pointed out the entrance to the hotel about 100 yards away! Neither was there any mention that the hotel entrance is actually at the BACK of the hotel. I walked all the way round the building expecting to find an entrance at the front overlooking the promenade only to find myself the wrong side of a long, high brick wall and eventually in a road that led to the private flats next door to the hotel. I noticed at least one other member of the party having exactly the same problems. For someone older and less mobile than I this could have caused real difficulty, especially coming straight after a long train journey. If these two points could be made clear by Travel Editions, I am sure it will save a lot of hassle for future participants. 5) The visit to the AC Exhibition at the museum could perhaps have been "staggered". Its quite a small room and perhaps it could have been suggested that the group split into two, one to visit the AC Exhibition and one to wander round the shop or the rest of the museum for 15 minutes or so first, meaning that there weren't so many of us all rammed into the AC Exhibition (which is in quite a small room) at the same time, making it a bit difficult to see over and around other people. 6) I query the need for the lady who came with us to the Museum. What she had to say about stops on the AC Mile was interesting but I am sure that these points could easily have been covered by Jane herself. She then disappeared completely after taking us into the museum leaving a couple of us wondering if she had gone for good or had just wandered off somewhere briefly! 7) A small prize perhaps for the winner of the WhoDunnit Murder Mystery? Just a bottle of wine, an AC paperback or two, a lapel pin of appropriately murderous design or a small thing to put on the mantelpiece when one gets home? You know, just as something to gloat over privately?! Other than those few very minor and easily resolvable points I had a wonderful break. Jane and the TE staff could not have been more professional, more helpful, more friendly or more accommodating and did their absolute utmost to make sure we all had a great time. Also major Brownie Points to Baz the Coach Driver, who went above and beyond the call of duty in getting us to Burgh Island. Oh, I was more than a little surprised that the restaurant staff at Burgh Island were a) so inefficient and b) thought it good PR to conduct an inappropriately overheated conversation with Jane in full hearing of the group on a matter which was entirely T
