ITINERARY

Day 1: Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris and onwards to Rennes by TGV. On arrival, transfer by coach to the Mercure Rennes Centre Parlement. Welcome drink at the hotel.

Day 2Full day tour to Carnac and Vannes.
Mysterious Carnac is one of Europe’s most important prehistoric sites, in use since 5700BC. Around 2,000 menhirs (megalithic stones) stand in parallel rows north of the delightful town. Pass through the gateway Porte St- Vincente of Vannes’ walled and well-preserved old town and you enter a stroller’s paradise of lively squares, winding streets overhung by timber fronted houses and charming gardens. Busy, modern Vannes has plenty of grand public buildings and fascinating museums.

Day 3Full day tour to Mont-Saint-Michel and Fougères.
The breath-taking Mont-Saint-Michel is definitely worth a quick sojourn into Normandy. The island commune has been the seat of a monastery since the 8th century though it was at its most influential in the 12th and 13th centuries as a pilgrimage site. The abbey, unchanged for centuries, crowns the island, the village at its foot full of shops and restaurants. En route, we will visit the fortress town of Fougères which is protected by ramparts. Its impressive château comprises 13 towers and walls over 3 metres thick.

Day 4: Full day to relax and explore Rennes at your leisure.
Rennes, the regional capital is a likeable, lively city. Though much of the historic centre was rebuilt in the 1720s following a devastating fire, there are still medieval gems to be found amongst the grand 18th century replacements. For an excellent overview of life in Brittany since prehistoric times visit the Museé de Bretagne whilst the Musée des Beaux Arts is notable for its paintings and drawings collection.

Day 5: Full day tour to Dinan, Dinard and Saint- Malo.
The medieval walled town of Dinan sits on a hilltop overlooking the River Rance. Some of its many historical buildings date back to the 13th century and the city walls are excellent for a stroll that will lead you to the Château de Dinan. Belle Époque villas and sandy beaches made Dinard France’s top resort until the 1930s and attracted many famous names including Picasso, Debussy and Winston Churchill. Saint-Malo is a walled port city that was once notorious for piracy. Today the only treasure is the elegant, old architecture, particularly the superb citadel at the city’s heart.

Day 6: Full day tour to Côte du Granit Rose and Paimpol.
The picturesque Côte du Granit Rose gets its name from its reddish-pink granite cliffs, the stone from which has also been used for many of the area’s buildings. Paimpol is a charming Breton fishing port with cobbled streets and a Quartier Latin.

Day 7Transfer by coach back to Rennes station to catch the return TGV to Paris. At Paris, board the return Eurostar service to St Pancras.

NB: Exact order of itinerary may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion.

Please note the maximum group size on this tour is 35 passengers.

We enjoyed our trip, and Helene our Tour Manager was helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. We felt that our tour would have been better if it was not in the main holiday session, perhaps in June or September. Also, although the breakfast provided by the Mercure hotel was good, I was a bit disappointed, being a Coeliac, that the bread was not as good as previous TE hotels. Overall we were pleased with our trip and we were fortunate to have missed the chaos that followed with the railway network.

This was our first trip with you and we enjoyed it very much. Helene was an excellent tour manager and it was a pleasure to share our holiday with her. Sandrine was a great and very safe driver. Thanks again for organising the room upgrade for my mother and me - this made a big difference - including the option of breakfast in the room. Carnac was a highlight; Mont-Saint-Michel an experience. The trip to Dinard was lovely. We skipped the trip to Paimpol (based on previous reviews) and enjoyed a day in Rennes instead. One very minor point - scheduling the free day for a Sunday was perhaps not the best option - particularly given the lack of options (pool, lounge, garden) at the hotel.

Enjoyed my trip, no problems with trains. Rennes was an excellent base, hotel handy for evening walks and varied eating options, so much to enjoy in Rennes. All trips were good but not enough time in each place, last trip to the coast very long and because of the large coach not particularly scenic, excellent driving by our French driver and careful guiding by Helene Gaujac. A great holiday Thank you.

An interesting tour. The individual trips were successful( not the fault of Travel Editions that Mont St. Michel is impossible). The only exception was the lack of any oink cliffs at Cote de Granit Rose! More time in Paimpol should be considered. Hotel excellent. The Tour manager was accessible and friendly and dealt very well with a couple of incidents. Certainly 10 out of 10. Very good coach driver

Overall a very enjoyable holiday. Rennes was a good base, with plenty to see and do, and the free day there was much appreciated. The hotel was well located for access to the old town, with plenty of good quality restaurants within easy walking distance. All of the excursions were worthwhile, with the exception of the trip to the pink granite coast where the few glimpses of the coast that we saw did not justify the long hours spent on the coach. The earlier start to the day for the trip to Mont St Michel was well worth it as we avoided the worst of the crowds, making for a much pleasanter experience.

I'd be interested to know why this tour was operated over the Bastille weekend? The coach transfer between Gare du Nord & Gare Montparnasse was too tight for comfort. Rennes was a good base if not a particularly exciting city and the Hotel Mercure very comfortable. Mont St Michel was easily the best excursion but trying to locate the pink granite cliffs was a tedious and unsuccessful quest. Steve the tour manager was excellent and the coach driver was polite and efficient.

This was another successful holiday with Travel Editions, and we enjoyed it. However, there were a few issues. We realised that this would be a different type of holiday, i.e.a city chain hotel rather than a family run establishment in a smaller town or village, and we had adjusted our expectations accordingly. Our main concern arises from the timing of the trip over a bank holiday weekend. Rennes is not particularly a tourist town. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as you do feel you are seeing the real France, and it was not an issue on the days we had trips out, but the choice of Sunday for the free day was unfortunate as basically everything was closed. It was difficult even to find a café open. We were given no suggestions as to what we could do and, although we were able to occupy ourselves with museums and a walking tour from the tourist information office, we would have liked an opportunity to take relaxing breaks and refreshment. The hotel also seemed to be geared more towards business guests than tourists. It was conveniently located, the room was comfortable and the breakfasts good, but there were no facilities for relaxation and no pool or garden. There was basically no opportunity to relax at the hotel or in the town. One suggestion might be to make the Saturday the free day, when Rennes holds its famous markets, and shops and cafes are open. Secondly we don’t understand what the Cote de Granit Rose added to the holiday. We spent practically the whole afternoon in the coach and barely even saw the coast. We certainly never saw the pink rock formations which a quick search of google had led us to expect, and which was surprising as your tour information suggests this might be one of the highlights of the holiday. We expected one or two quick stops at viewing points and then a longer stop for a more detailed view and a drink. In fact we spent 45 minutes at a small resort without even a direct view of the sea, where the only bar was shut for lunch, and the one cafe already full. We spent over 4 hours in the coach that afternoon. It was not an impressive end to the holiday and (having consulted maps, guidebooks etc since our return) we really have to wonder whether we were even taken to the right place. If it was the right place, then perhaps we should have been given some information as to where to go to see the rock formations, because they certainly weren’t immediately visible. Steve was an affable and helpful tour guide and clearly very experienced, but seemed to put in less effort than we might have expected. He was good, but your previous guides have been excellent.

This was an excellent tour. The only disappointment was on Day 6: Full day tour to Cote de Granit Rose and Paimpol. Paimpol was the least interesting town that we visited. We saw very little of the Cote de Granit Rose. We drove to Ploumanac'h and saw a little of the coast there and then down to Tregastel, passing large areas of mudbank on the way. I had rather expected a coastal drive with views of the pink granite rocks and the sea. It was a long journey to see so little.

Enjoyed my trip. Very kind helpful tour manager. Great hotel. Excellent (very safe and calm ) driver. Only suggestion is need to rethink the (pre-ordained, not down to tour manager control ) itinerary for final day…Pamplon,a charming market town fine. But the long drive along the ‘ pink coast’ not practicable or productive..entailed a long drive to no great avail…

Much enjoyed our Brittany visit. Helene was excellent - helpful and approachable, and we enjoyed friendly & interesting fellow travellers. Our young coach driver was very reliable. We were surprised that the day in Mont St. Michel was at a busy 'national' weekend, where we felt overwhelmed with crowds. Could this have been on a 'quieter' weekday?? Paimpol and Granite Coast was a long journey, with less to see than hoped. Vannes & Dinan were delightful and Rennes and the Mercure were excellent bases.

We were meant to be a party of three, but one, very sadly, had to drop out. Superb trip with the most excellent tour guide. Helene went out of her way to be helpful. Such a lovely personality. Perfect hotel in just the right place for finding evening meals and supermarkets nearby. My only problem was with the oat milk I had requested. Despite asking for 'lait d'avoine', I was actually given almond milk. I felt pretty ill for two days and nights until the weekend staff realised the mistake. Luckily I do not have a bad nut allergy, but other people do and this could have been fatal. The only other very slight issue was toilets when we were out and about. I always like to know where they are before I get off the coach. Not a problem in Carnac and Mont St Michel, though. The driver was really accommodating, and the toilet on the coach was really clean and well looked after. Thank you for another superb holiday, (despite the heat!). I look forward to Zundert in September!

Although Rennes is a lovey town and I very much enjoyed my day off there, I did feel that it might have been better to have 3 nights on the south coast of Brittany and three on the north coast. We seemed to spend a lot of time on the coach instead of at the very interesting places we visited. The Paimpol & Pink Granite coast in particular was spent mainly on the coach , with a visit to the market in Paimpol and 30 minutes to see a bit of the pink granite coast, and then a very long journey back to Rennes.

Stonehenge on Steroids is one way of describing the extraordinary array of megaliths at Carnac, the destination of the first excursion from Rennes. I found the extent and scale of the site almost overwhelming. My little Guide Book names it as the best place to see in Brittany and I can see why. If you look at a map of Brittany, find Rennes almost in the centre and then imagine a spider - Itsy Bitsy, Charlotte, call it what you will. Its body is Rennes and the legs are the roads to the coast, north, south, east and west we travelled daily to see the fabulous sights of Brittany. South east to Vannes for the morning before travelling to Carnac. I cheated and jumped on Le Petit Train which went through the medieval old town past the carvings of Vannes et sa femme adorning a corner of a Maison de Vannes and the cathedral and still got back in time for a delicious lunch at L’Atlantique. The stormy weather did not spoil the visit to Le Mont-Saint-Michel on the north coast, the abbey, with its statue of St Michel crowning the spire, last seen by me on TV at the Grand Depart of Le Tour de France in 2016! The sun had come out for the brief visit to Fougères, which, with its round towers and conical roofs reminded me more than a little of Carcassonne. Rennes is a good base to see Brittany. The Mercure Hotel was very good, its air conditioning keeping us cool in ever increasing heat. Plenty of restaurants close by and I enjoyed my visit to le Musee de Beaux-Arts, especially when I found a beautiful White Iris painting by the American artist Georgia O’Keefe on loan from Madrid. The legs of our spider might not be too interesting, mainly fringed by small fields of maize and the occasional black and white cow, conifer and deciduous trees and purple-pink heather but the destinations are perfect. Terry Regan, our experienced Tour Manager, ensured we were familiar with the history, sometimes very gory, of the places we visited and Valerie, our driver, delivered us safely and smoothly to all our destinations. I loved Dinan with its medieval centre and again jumped on le Petit Train which went down to the river and back. At Dinard, right on the sandy beach with its rows of little blue and white striped tents, I enjoyed my lunch, Moules & Frites and a glass of Muscadet which set me up nicely for the visit to the imposing granite walled citadel of St Malo. Paimpol is a very pretty fishing port and we visited on market day where I bought delicious local cherries and apricots. Sitting out of the sun in a cafe on the quayside, I enjoyed a coffee and a chat with some locals who were very impressed with the TV quality on my iPhone. Fortunately, I had been able to keep up with le Tour de France as it headed towards the Pyrenees and its first high altitude stage. Did you see Julian Alaphillippe in his race leader’s yellow skin suit, win Stage 13, the Time Trial at Pau? Beating our Geraint Thomas by 14 seconds it was one of the most exciting stages of the race. The second rest day seemed a long time coming. In 2011, I travelled with Travel Editions to Brittany, staying on the west coast and visiting many coastal places. This present Tour is an excellent way to see Brittany and another very successful Tour. Thanks again, Travel Editions.

A very good holiday thanks in no small measure to Terry Regan, our excellent tour guide. He was a mine of useful and interesting information about Brittany, particularly its history (even the gory bits!) , but we never felt overwhelmed. All his recommendations proved to be worth following on where to eat and what to see especially the truly fabulous son et lumiere in Rennes. The highlights for us were Vannes, Carnac and Dinan ( where we would have loved to have spent the day ). The only drawback was that it was too busy for us at this time of the year. The hotel breakfasts were excellent and Rennes a very good centre.

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, but it would have been nice if at least some evening meals were included. It was sometimes quite an effort having to go out and find a restaurant, especially as we're vegetarian, after a full day's tour. That said, there was no lack of good restaurants. Most of the tours were very good to excellent. We could have done with more time at the Carnac prehistoric site than the 1hr 30 mins we spent there - especially as you feature the Carnac stones on your tour publicity - but we realise that we are probably in a minority in that respect. We enjoyed all the visits, with the exception of Paimpol market on the last day - this was an overcrowded scrum with few redeeming features which you can get anywhere and we couldn't quite see the point of stopping there. It would have been far more preferable to have made straight for the wonderful Cote du Granit Rose location and been able to spend a longer time there. You need a 'Very Good' rating between 'Good' and 'Excellent' - sometimes one wants to say better than good but not necessarily excellent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Brittany. The tour manager, Terry, was extremely knowledgeable and professional. The trips were interesting and well organised (though the last was perhaps a half hour too long). The hotel was very well located and the breakfasts unusually good for France. Our only criticism is that we would have preferred a half - or semi half- board basis rather than just b and b. This enables members of the group to get to know each other better.

Another excellent well organised tour. Terry is BRILLIANT,knows so much and is able to impart this in an easily understood way. He is also very funny.I also felt confident that he could cope with any problems that might arise.

We had a great holiday, the only problem was the weather but no one can guarantee to keep the rain away.

We would like to add a few words of praise for the tour manager Terry Regan. He was especially helpful to us on two occasions, and looked after the whole party very well during the rail and coach journeys. The weather was mixed during the whole trip and we feel that an earlier date might have been better as some of places were rather crowded due to other holidaymakersmaking for the cafes and bars. The hotel was very comfortable but closing the bar in the evenings over the week end was a drawback.

Great holiday in no small part due to Terry, our tour manager. Tireless and so good -humoured. Hotel excellent, very helpful staff, BUT cardboard cups?? Coach journey across Paris very poor; very stressful for passengers and Terry! So, downsides not really the fault of Travel Editions.

Long trip to granite coast on the last day. Mont St. Michel a highlight. Hotel above average.

We couldn't have asked for a better tour manager than Terry. Nothing was too much trouble and he was always on hand, even when we finally arrived back at St Pancras.

With hindsight, probably not a good selection of tour by me. Too much travel there and back and on the coach on day-trips relative to the being there and in nice places. Terry the tour manager was brilliant. The son-et-lumiere at Rennes was an unexpected bonus highlight.

This is the second time we have travelled with Terry Regan and we have found that he surpasses expectations of a tour manager both in knowledge of the country and helpfulness to the passengers.

Terry Regan is a first class tour manager with an encyclopaedic knowledge of France, the French and all the places we visited. He made a major contribution to the success of this tour and was very attentive to the needs of the group. The itinerary covered a good selection of towns in Brittany.

2 tours destinations in 1 day gives more time to enjoy the places. 3 destinations gives no time to appreciate the sites, otherwise very good

Very happy with the whole experience. The only negative comment is ragrding timing of final day tour when timing of lunch was much too late. Would have been better to have had lunch at Paimpol and then on to the final destiation. Very happy with the Hotel Mercure, probably the best hotel we've stayed at with Travel Editions.
