Follow Monet’s footsteps through the landscapes that shaped his art. From Paris to Giverny and beyond, this journey traces the Seine as light, colour and water blur into inspiration.

Walk through the galleries of the Orangerie and d’Orsay before heading out to Argenteuil and Chatou, where open air and shared tables brought a movement to life. Visit Monet’s Vetheuil, the cliffs of Etretat, and the harbour of Honfleur – pausing where paintings once began

ITINERARY

Day 1: London to Paris
Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris, then transfer to the hotel for check-in. Visit the Musee Marmottan Monet to view several works by the painter. Evening welcome drink, talk from Anne: 'Impressionism: Monet in Context', followed by dinner.

Day 2: Paris
Full day tour of Paris to visit Musee de l’Orangerie, home to the famous Water Lilies masterpieces, and Musee d’Orsay which boasts some 150 works by Claude Monet. Evening at leisure.

Day 3: Argenteuil and Chatou 
Today we coach to Argenteuil to visit Maison Impressionniste Claude Monet, an immersive museum dedicated to the painter where he produced many of his masterpieces. We enjoy a walk in the scenic, wooded, riverside Parc des Impressionnistes, which was designed to celebrate the legacy of the Impressionist painters who frequented the area. We also visit historic Ile des Impressionnistes on the river Seine, to which Renoir, Monet and Manet were drawn due to its light, scenery and vibrant social scene. After a group lunch at a restaurant on the banks of the river, this afternoon we visit the Fournaise Museum for an immersive exhibition on Renoir. Evening at leisure.

Day 4: Paris to Rouen
Today we travel to Rouen, stopping in Auvers-sur-Oise on the way. Here we take a walk around the village with Anne to see the places that Van Gogh painted, his grave, and the Maison de Van Gogh. We also visit Maison de Claude Monet a Vetheuil, where Monet lived for 3 years. On arrival in Rouen, we enjoy a welcome drink, talk from Anne: 'Monet Along the Seine', followed by dinner.

Day 5: Giverny and Vernon
We spend the morning at Monet’s House and Gardens in Giverny, then coach to Vernon to Musee Blanche Hoschede-Monet.

Day 6: Etretat, Le Harve and Honfleur 
Visit Etretat to view the cliffs with Anne, where Monet was inspired to paint some of his famous works, then drive on to Le Havre with entrance to the Musée d’art Moderne André Malraux (MuMa). We end the day at the port of Honfleur with free time for an early dinner (own expense) before returning to Rouen.

Day 7: Departure
Free time in Rouen before returning to Paris for Eurostar to London St Pancras.

Professor Anne Anderson

Professor Anne Anderson

With a first degree in archaeology and a PhD in English, Anne was a senior lecturer in Art and Design History at Southampton Solent University for 14 years from 1993 to 2007. She specializes in the Aesthetic Movement, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and Modernism. She has published several books, including The Perseus Series, which accompanied the Edward Burne-Jones exhibition held at Tate Britain (2018), and Art Nouveau Architecture (2020). She has also published over 50 articles in respected academic journals.

Anne has curated four national exhibitions, mostly recently Beyond the Brotherhood The Pre-Raphaelite Legacy (2019-20). American fellowships held include the Huntington Library, CA and the American Antiquarian Society, MA. She has lectured for The Arts Society, The Art Fund, the V&A Learning Academy, the National Trust and Christies’. Her career as an international speaker has taken her all over the world, including Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Canada and the USA. She undertook her sixth lecture tour for Arts National Australia in 2024. She has also lectured on several cruise ships, Swan Hellenic’s Minerva, the Spirit of Adventure and the Hebridean.
