Journey through the beautiful town of Sorrento to the buried cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, wander through vineyards, royal palaces and clifftop gardens ablaze with colour. Cruise the coastal highway of the Amalfi Coast, sip fizz among lovely gardens, and stand beneath the painted frescoes of Villa Oplontis.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Fly to Italy
Fly from London Heathrow to Naples, then transfer to the hotel in Sorrento. Evening welcome drink, and dinner with wine.

Day 2: Sorrento
Begin the day with a Lemon Tour, where we learn about the cultivation and production of Sorrento’s famous citrus fruits. Enjoy tastings of limoncello, cream of limoncello, marmalades, and other lemon infused treats like honey, biscuits, and olive oil. The afternoon is free to relax or explore Sorrento at your own pace.

Day 3: Pompeii and Villa Oplontis
This morning, enjoy a guided tour of Pompeii with a professional archaeologist, uncovering the secrets of this ancient Roman city. Continue to a winery on Mount Vesuvius for an included lunch and wine tasting. In the afternoon, visit Villa Oplontis, a beautifully preserved Roman villa believed to have belonged to Nero’s wife.

Day 4: Amalfi Coast
Drive along the breath-taking Amalfi Coast, stopping for panoramic views of Positano. Visit the town of Amalfi, then board a hydrofoil to Maiori. End the day in Ravello with a visit to the stunning Villa Rufolo Gardens, a lush paradise of exotic plants, fountains and flowerbeds.

Day 5: Sorrento
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Sorrento. Relax by the sea, shop for local crafts, or sample more of the region’s delicious cuisine.

Day 6: Herculaneum
This morning we take a guided tour of the site of Herculaneum, one of the most remarkably preserved ancient Roman cities, offering a glimpse into daily life. We then head to Naples for a tour of the National Archaeological Museum, home to many treasures from Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Day 7: Palace of Caserta
Spend the day at the magnificent UNESCO-listed Palace of Caserta, exploring the Royal Apartments, Royal Park, and English Gardens. End the visit with a glass of fizz while admiring the garden views.

Day 8: Departure
Free time before transfer to the airport for the return flight to London Heathrow.
